TERMINUS ad QUEM By Billie Cullimore The walls are dark, the chains are tight. I cannot rest or sleep at night. Please, let me go. Don't you see? I'm in a prison I once called, "Me." The days are long and filled with pain. I struggle to free myself in vain. The hours drag by forever lasting. Time to remember a long life passing. A young girl laughing, full of life. Never guessing of future strife. But, here I lie, how can this be? In this prison I once called, "Me." Romance, marrage, children, home. I'll never realy be alone. I cannot speak to loved ones near. Please don't cry, I'm still here. I try so hard to move my hand. My lips are numb, you understand? I love you all so tenderly. From this prison I once called, "Me." I began to feel a terrible fright. Though now, I see a distant light. My body quivers and starts to strain. Yet, I no longer feel the pain. I seem to hear the angels sing. The fog is lifting, is it spring? There's gold dust flowers at my feet. The air I breath smells so sweet. Tears of joy desend my face. My spirit soars, I've won the race. Thank God, at last You've set me free, From the prison I once called, "Me." |

The poem, TERMINUS ad QUEM, was writen for my sister Dixie, who had a stroke and was unable to communicate, but was still able to comprehend what was going on around her until she died. Thank you; Billie. |

My grandmother was in a vegetative state for 19 months after a stroke... I think you've written that horror well! |
