How did I miss the turning of the leaves on the cherry trees and did an autumn breeze whirl them away in swirls of red and gold or did they cling to the branches the way my hands clutched yours white knuckled, nothing left to say as you slowly slipped away the fallen leaves left impressions everlasting on the walk, the way your love pressed memories to my heart before the wind changed our directions autumn turned to winter like the seasons of your life yet spring is budding, grieving eases new life whispers through the trees I feel you near the way a child knows her father’s in the next room in the oneness of heaven I know love is everything |
