Whatever happened to the weekends at home the loveseat, the movies, together alone. Whatever happened to the home cooked dish the corkscrew, the bubbles, and the secret wish. Whatever happened to the kiss at first sight the moon, and the stars, and the walks at night. Whatever happened to the future we sought the workweek, the newsbeat, and the radio clock. Remember girl when we were sweethearts we stopped at nothing never to part. Whatever happened to the romance that soared and the long nights together, lusty and torrid. Whatever happened to the you lean on me the phone call, the notebook, the boy scout degree. Whatever happened to the quick second look the lover, the friend, the comfort we took. Whatever happened to the home with the porch the sunroom, the fireside, the cozy love port. Remember girl when we were sweethearts we stopped at nothing never to part. Whatever happened to the trips down the pike the sunshine, the bright rooms, the dancing at night. Whatever happened to the long evening gown the quiche, the entree, and the lights turned down. Whatever happened to the T-shirts and shorts the garden, the flowers, and the summer resort. Whatever happened to the you and the me the time, the virtue, and the love we both need? Remember girl when we were sweethearts we stopped at nothing never to part. [This message has been edited by ethome (03-15-2009 07:37 PM).] |

Hey don't get me wrong this is just a song and a life observance. I am on my second marriage and it's been a lot of years and a wonderful experience. These questions I asked myself back when I was really hurting heart and soul after I split up with my fist wife back in 1989. AND, I still love her it's just that I'm not IN LOVE with her anymore. As in all relationships we had some fabulous times together and a daughter together. Sometimes it takes two to make it right. Love to ya inkedgoddess~ Eric |

Such a well written melancholic piece, dear Eric. These are moments that most of us can relate to, I guess, but if we are lucky we won't be stuck in them. Love, Margherita |

Yo Eric, This is fairly well written, and I understand it. Are these questions being asked, or statements. I think that should be "cozy", and not "cosy". Bobby |

Dixie Never heard that Harry Chapin song but I am a big fan of his. Too bad the way he died in a car accident. Only two months wow. You must be just having some down time in the blues. Things will get better. Thanks for the fine comment on this piece I really appreciate it. Eric |

You're right Margherita we all have to move on but a little reflection on the good times never hurts. Just this one life to live makes you want to remember. This may be a weird way to do it but I guess it's just the way it came out. Thanks for the fine comment and the positive input. Eric |

Bobby Thanks for the visit and the comment. Yes, it should be cozy. These are questions that are close to being statements, mostly reflections on the past. Take care Eric |

That's what I call a perfect evening, breakfast in bed, lazy afternoons. Young love is such a special time in our lives isn't it? What a perfect way to spend a lifetime! |

"Whatever happened to the quick second look the lover, the friend, the comfort we took." Poignant lyrics, Eric. Maybe the 'spring' of love fades when 'fall' sets in, and we are overwhelmed by the demise rather than the beginning of a dream. |

Whatever happened to the kiss at first sight the moon, and the stars, and the walks at night. You've asked poignant questions so many of us have asked... even things that go bad usually started as wonderful and satisfying. *S* Great song, my friend! *S* |

An engaging anaphoric piece, Eric. Yep, there's whatever has happened, then the cherished memories, and whatever lies beyond ![]() Mark |

Hello, Eric! Your poem ~ and your response to the Goddess, perfectly illustrate how a poet's life experiences add depth to the inkwell and a variety of tones and colours to the ink! ![]() Sending a big, St. Paddy's hug your way! Linda ![]() |

Mark Yeah, repetition for emphasis starting those verses the same. Songwriter's poetic license to work in meter and melody. I appreciate the fine comments and the what's beyond thoughts. Eric |
