On the whole; the hand that Fate has dealt me, has been sweet indeed; I have good health... a sense of humour; there isn't really much I need beyond that; when they say... how can you be so cheerful all day long?... I smile... it's really no great secret... it's just a simple Love song. A pretty thing that whispers through my thoughts when things get really fraught... although, it has no words... and I suppose then, that it really ought to be called... a melody; "Love melody" though, sounds quite wrong; and so I'll stick with what I've said... it's just a simple Love song. It's just a simple Love song... not contrived, pretentious... overdone; it's just a soft piano, gentle strings, and muted concert horn that blend into a soft, and bittersweet refrain where dreams belong... and maybe, even gentle tears... it's just a simple Love song. It's just a simple Love song... whispering gentle as a lover's sigh; a touch of velvet in the night... the sweetest, softest lullaby. A haunting reverie that murmurs... it's alright, there's nothing wrong; tomorrow is another day... it's just a simple Love song. It's just a simple Love song... but this little tune tells perfectly what love is really all about... and what you really mean to me; that's why I think of you when it soft plays and my thoughts drift along caressing you... if only... but... it's just a simple Love song. It's just a simple Love song... playing in my head, and it's quite true that as it wends and floats so gently... it's reminding me of you; and it is such a pretty tune... one that I shall recall, lifelong... and so I never shall forget you; it's just a simple Love song. ***************************** Inspired by one of my favourite pieces... Just a Simple Love Song - Laurens van Rooyen. Listen to it here: http://www.esnips.com/doc/fbc1b8b7-0ac7-4697-8f40-807e5921b6b8/Just-A-Simple-Love-Song |

How could one help but feel happy with a love tune like that playing in their mind ~ and heart. A total delight! Linda |

this a pretty, well-thought, emotional poem. overall, i enjoyed. You should retitle this poem "Vonnegut's Nightmare" though, on account of all the semicolons. I think they were being overused and misused. But what's a few punctuation errors to something this beautiful? |

The difference is: I'm not Kurt Vonnegut... I'm me! If punctuation was good enough for Will Shakespeare... it's certainly good enough for me. Punctuation is certainly not needed in all poetry, but I think there are increasingly more times when poets don’t use it. I wouldn’t say it's because they’re lazy, but because they think it’s "En Vogue." Many poets also seem to consider punctuation somehow secondary, or less important than the words. Punctuation can be used not only to control the flow, but to add power, and even create different meanings... depending on how it’s used. Punctuation, grammar; syntax, and word choice are all part of a complete package, and they all contribute to the feel and the meaning of the poem. D. |
