Burning tears slide sideways
while I dream in water colors
rewinding an impossible love affair
lying in wait deep in the dark abyss
of the iris in my eyes.

I blink you back
if only for a fleeting moment
waving at every go round
that leaps from the past.

Winters were windy
and the warmth of your kiss
was a welcome shiver.
The spring was long stemmed
in a field of flowers
while making dandelion wishes
that blew in the wind.

Summers were for low tides
and wading in warm pools.
The fall was for skipping stones
across shallow waters.
And always you were there
in the throws of my heart breaking.

Somehow,  by sheer will
I rose to the occasion,
that our impossible love affair
would be the keeper of my dreams
a gift to take with me wherever I go
into the future past,  and beyond.

My eyes have since adjusted to the light
looking through the shadows
banking, high above the fog
softly swirling in the evening mist.

Like a winter storm collides from all sides;
we made it.
You were my spring bouquet
my cool blue water.
Even now, when the summer ruffles my hemline
I am lost in your smile
still.

You take me back to a similar moment in time with this poem, Esp with the dandilion wishes. I enjoyed the flow of your words.

Hi TD~  What a nice surprise to see you here.
Thanks so much for reading.

John R~  Well yes, those wishes are all scattered now.
But you know, just making them was a very special time in my life.
Thank you kindly~

That was just a wonderful read my friend.
"lying in wait deep in the dark abyss
of the iris in my eyes." loved these two lines, thanks for sharing.

Dear Bluesy - Fantastic write!  Can't quote any lines because they're all so good.  Impossible love affairs - I sometimes wonder about their merit but I'm glad you can look back at it now the way you do.  For myself I really am trying not to look back at anything - not succeeding but certainly am trying.

So good that you're posting again.

Imposible love affairs, in their impossible form, are as unshedable as evergreens; they are never tested by the trial of longevity. I'm sure you've struck a few chords here, and you've done it with a tremendous choice of words and poetic ability.

It is only when we have endured an impossible love affair that a true love affair becomes possible.

Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

...Beautiful. Loved the whole thing, but that part in particular, I am keeping this one, it resonates with my feelings now.
