I’m a Women’s Weekly writer
I write doggerel and verse
my doggerel’s gone to the dogs
my verse is something worse

I only write romantic poems
and all that soppy stuff
I’ve never tackled politics
‘cept once when up the duff

I’m a Women’s Weekly writer
my work defies description
but when it’s printed black on white
I get a year’s subscription.

The reader’s like my rhythm
I’m not left on the shelf
in toilet paper substitute
I find I touch myself

I’m a Women’s Weekly writer
accessible to the masses
crowds desire my shape and form
I’m teaching it in classes

And just in case you’re interested
Hallmark has my name
on structured sentimental days
my verse, my claims to fame

I’m a Women’s Weekly writer
I’ve been around a while
and in my stack of magazines
there’s love in every style.

I’m not rich or famous
no books of poetry
I’m a Women’s Weekly writer
and that’s okay by me.

My doggerel is so bad it has fleas. I like this. You know, I'd be proud if I could be a Womens Weekly writer. It would take so little to make me proud!
