My Feelings on Writing and the Internet

The more I know. I find, the more I do not want to show it. Being realistic, there are too many advice givers who have not gotten everything figured out, as far as writing. Famous authors who have become idols, loved by millions. Don't have a whole lot to say. When they do say something about writing, it’s not understood or valued by the masses. Least of all inspiring writers because it's so simple, not the overwhelming complexity of what they would like to believe. Generally speaking, I guess we are all our own fools trying to do something that can't ways be figured out by our own thinking and beliefs. The one's who seem to be having a hard time putting their thoughts into words, are really the best teachers, because they are the children of writing. Giving us so much more by their innocence not disillusioned by a swollen head. I will admit that their works are hard to read and understand. Who of us has not had their writing clouded by creativity, causing what we were trying to do, to be confusing and have to rewrite to make it clearer. Has not each of us, had to figure out how to do this within ourselves?

Considering that there are over 50 million people using the Internet and more information that one person can conceive. I believe that Passionate Forum has something special from all the other on line writer's sites. They are not that many advice givers being cruel to the innocent who are only beginning to work out a clearer way to express themselves. "God loves the children of the world." Let us remain a child of writing and not the God's we would like to believe we are, fooling ourselves by giving too much advice. When we are not a famous author who has verified without doubt, him or her self by their works and little words.

An inspiring author

Some of us are here to learn. Some of us are hear to share what we've learned. Some of us are here to have fun. Some of us are here to have fun learning. Some of us are here to write whatever we are thinking and aren't concerned for learning anything, but are more concerned with simply expressing. Some of us realize that there are endless things to learn and that the only thing they know is how little they know. Some of us just want to read what other people write. Some of us don't want to read anything, but just want to write and have an audience.

Wherever you stand in all of the above, I wish you the best of luck in your writing and I'm glad you've joined us at Passions. One thing about Passions.... it's a place with an open heart to a lot of people.... as you have said.

I for one, welcome any kind of advice, tips, tricks, and insight I can get from other writers.... whether I agree with their opinions or not. But that's just me.

Onward toward your satisfied adventure of writing, Merlyn, however you envision it as fitting perfectly into your life. I enjoy your stories and your enthusiasm.

Doreen:

I will admit! I don't know nothing! For if I did--there would not be room in my poor excuse for a brain to realize anything. So I will let the facts speak for themselves. Go to any large retail book store and look under, "How to," books. Notice how many books there are on, "How to," write. Then go to a library and notice how little of the same kind of books by one time published authors before they started to become experts on how to write. I do not believe there is no other subject more written about then, "how to" books on writing. I took Writer's Digest for five years and read it from cover to cover. I have almost read every book on, "How do write," that has ever be written, including College text books and books into the last century. Becoming an expert on, "how to write," but never was able to write worth a crap for fifteen years.
Now this popular style of books and massive information is coming to the net. There are people who are claiming to be making over $4,000 dollars a month. Writing this kind of books and selling them as e-books. All because of the million of people in the world wanting desperately to learn how to write. So do you think we need more advice givers in the world? The one's of us who love writing more than anything else--trying desperately not to let it confuse use, that it is a game to play around with. Because we want to write for a living. If you do not like my feeling and think there are empty minded opinions. Perhaps your right! I admit I don't know nothing. They are only feelings. I was not pointing a finger at, "Passionate Forums" or the people posting there. You assumed wrong. I was only pointing a finger at profound advice givers. I apologize.

A feeling not worth a copyright, from
a nobody idiot who likes to write:

Geez.... every time I write anything in the discussion forums lately, I seem to get misunderstood! What the heck did I say that made you think you were pointing at ME as an advice giver? or... what the heck are you apologizing for?

I just read and re-read my last comment and all I was saying is that people frequent these forums for different reasons. Some people want to hear advice from others and other people don't. What's wrong with that?

And then I expressed compliments regarding your writing and how much I liked your stories and wished you the best of luck in your writing endeavors.... what's wrong with that?

Oh well. I don't get it. If I said anything to offend you, I am very very sorry. Perhaps I need to work on writing more concisely so that I'm getting my point across and so I won't be misunderstood.

Communication sure is one tricky thing, isn't it? I've known you for a long time, merlyn, and I am proud to call you my friend. I am also proud to call you a fellow writing enthusiast who takes learning his craft seriously and works hard on it.

So.... whatever I said here that rubbed you the wrong way, please realize that it was unintentional. Probably the result of my poor writing skills.

your friend,
doreen

Doreen,
I understood what you said but I wasn't sure what Merlynh was talking about (being the paranoid person that I am, I thought he was talking about CA ) . Yes, there are a lot of 'how to' books when it comes to writing and while I think the basics are usually the same, we all have to consider that they are usually just one person's opinion and take it as such.

Best advice about writing:
Read more; write more.

Merlynh,
Contrary to popular belief, I don't think there is any magic to writing, I think it's hard work (with occassional moments of inspiration; yes, sometimes it just comes, even for me). The trick, I think, is to write, not wait for those few moments. "How to" books are helpful but they are not the key. On the other side of the coin, none of those books have ever read Merlynh and don't know specifically what your strengths and weaknesses are. Here, you can do that. As a result, I think advice is a good thing here. Don't be afraid to tell people what you think of their work at CA (yes, I'm referring to a specific post of yours), just be civil (or try to be civil; I still seem to make mistakes). It's your opinion and you are not playing God. If you don't give your honest opinion, it seems to me, you are assuming points about the writer that you don't know; you are playing God.

You say you don't know 'nothing' (rather irritating phrasing if you ask me). Yet, in the first post you say 'the more I know, I find, the more I do not want to show it'. Which one is it? Both, of course. Share what you think you know and let the rest of us decide if it's usefull. Not sharing is self serving at best and self delusional at worst.

Enough of the confusion it doesn't really matter. I'll forget I wrote the whole thing if everyone else will. Okay? I'm much too busy writing. It's a full time thing with me anymore. I like writing storirs and not really thinking about anything else. Okay?
Sorry if I've caused any confusion. I'll get back to what I do the best write stories. Love you guys.
