So I'm here to discuss trends. Someone a couple weeks ago called me trendy and it really irked me. Why? I don't know. I never considered myself to be "in style" or part of the crowd. In my first and second year of high school, my clothes were all dress down and comfortable. Sometimes they still are but lately I've been one to dress up. It makes me feel good about myself and it makes me feel special. I know I shouldn't listen to what other people say but when that boy a couple weeks ago called me trendy because I had a Papa Roach shirt on one day and a skirt on the next day, it made me really think about myself and other people. Everyone is trendy in there own little way. I think even calling people trendy is becoming trendy. For example, my friend joe and I were IN LOVE with Korn (rock music group). Now this wasn't just a 1 year thing. For 4 years of our lives we've loved Korn. All of a sudden Korn, like Blink 182, Green Day, and other famous Rock/Punk bands started going mainstream and turning more pop. Now bands by that name are considered trendy! Now rock/punk bands have to watch out that they don't make it mainstream in fear of becoming trendy. It's supposedly "Bad for their repuation". I don't see how it's bad for your repuation. You become famous and have an even larger fan base then before. Meaning more ticket sales, more merch. sales, more cd sales, more coverage. It's A LOT better. So what's wrong with it!!! Well there are many other things that could be discussed under trends and what's trendy or not but I feel I made this already to long. So my question to you guys is: What really is being "Trendy"? Thank you all for your time!! And sorry to the older members who have NO idea what I'm talking about. Teenagers in this society are crazy...I'm one of them. *×´¨`·.×*Raven Skye*×´¨`·.×* |

I'm not a teen...what you are now calling "trends" we use to call "fads..." close enough to mean the same... so what you are experiencing is not much different than what us "old folk" experienced each and every decade back... just don't be getting yourself into a "rut", y'hear? |

I think it's stupid when people get upset because their 'baby' underground band becomes famous, or when old fans think they are more loyal just b/c they started listening when they weren't so big, or whatever. But I can kind of see why a band wouldn't want to be trendy, per se, because then a lot of people listen just because it's in vogue- the band's work gets taken less seriously, people move on and start new musical trends, and ultimately, the band and/or music genre it represented is seen as just a trend when it may have been much more. As far as clothes go, forget it. Wear what you want to wear, regardless of what people think- I have my tongue pierced- I also have a friend who wants it done but feels that it's dumb to do it when everyone else is doing it. So her idea of trendy is cutting edge and different. My idea of trendy is wearing whatever I feel like wearing, whether it is the pair of adidas everyone has, or my one-of-a-kind pink polka-dot skirt form the Salvation Army. It's a personal thing. everything's fine. |

Why does one have to follow trends to be somebody? I would think being yourself would be much more inpressive than any trends would be. --Marie You can’t expect the roses to grow without the weeds. |

Funny things these trends. I have stayed away from trends because once you get into it it changes. I am one who wears and does what I want and that just happens to not be the trend but the funny thing about doing so is that I fit into no group and yet I fit into them all. Does that make since? Well it is the story of my life. So be different or be the same as someone else it matters not because words are just that, words. The White Wolf If life is just a game, when does it end cause I want to get to what is real. |

It hasn't been that long ago since I was in high school. I've always thought that trendy was just a lot of people trying to be something that their not so that they will be excepted. Don't get me wrong. i'm not saying that it's bad to like trendy music or clothes. I like some of them myself. I just don't think that you should like them just because they're considered what's cool. I wear a lot of things that are considered trendy. I also wear stuff that most people wouldn't be caught dead in. I too have my tongue pierced. I've had it for 6 years now. I have 6 tattoos. I have them because I like them. Not because it's cool. I think that what you wear and listen to should be an expresion of who you are. If you like to wear name brand clothes that's great. But if you want to wear torn up jeans and combat boots that should be okay too. I think that I got a little off the subject. Sorry! |

this can be a simple issue or one that can be inflated. i'll TRY and keep it simple- no promises! hehe. well...a trend is something that is portrayed to the public to be "cool". yet, as soon as something comes in, it usually goes out just as quick. its been noted that u should do things, wear things, listen to things bcos YOU like them, not cos they're "in" (or in old language- "hip", hehe). yet, one must step back and ask themselves something: what DO i truly like?? we dont decide this by ourselves. even with this, people are largely influenced by their idols, how society sees their "type" ...eg gothics wear "what they want" yet stay in the "guidelines" of wearing black, boots, layered clothing etc. and the like.
