I've posted a few works on various forums here and I have responded to many. I was wondering why we post? I post because I have to write, and I want people to read it. How about you? Anyone else post and never get comments? How does that make you feel? |

It does not bother me when I do not get a response because sometimes I read a post and I am very moved but I do not respond. I may not feel the need or I may not have time to respond at the moment. I write my meager musing because I have a need to express myself but I do not have to get a response from anyone to be fulfilled by writing. I have seen as many as five people read something that I have written and not respond with a single word. But they will ask to read the next thing I write so they must obtain something from my writing. Even if no one reads my work I write mostly for myself! |

I was not referring to this forum. I have had people personaly read my work and lay it down without a comment. I do not ask them what they think or how it made them feel because the work may envoke personal emotions. Sometimes these feeling are too personal to relate. I write because I have to. I post because I want to. I am a little disappointed when my poems don't receive a lot of comments - but I know my style is not to everyone's liking (some call it Hallmark style). Until tonight, I had not posted a new poem on the Open Forum for 2 weeks. Sadly, no one noticed but me........... |

The people who post comments are a small fraction of those that are registered (701 as I write this), as I think just about anyone can readily see. What you don't see, however, are the server logs - so many don't realize that those that are registered are an equally small fraction of those who browse the forums. I don't have last week's figures yet, but for the week ending 7/24/99 there were 13,427 unique IP's accessing the forum. Are the poems being read? You bet! |

Well now, I guess that makes me feel better. Kinda start feeling like the math club president running the kissing booth, everyone is buying tickets but waiting for the head cheerleader to take her shift... Sorry, sometimes these really messed up images just seem to flow right out of my keyboard - I think it's possessed. I hereby promise to comment on at least one piece in each forum I visit, on every visit. I think I will start by commenting on those that have no comments yet posted (then perhaps I can put an end to this dreaded karma). ------------------ Dum spiro, spero JP |

J/k  Really though, I am the same, I post what I write here, because if it can bring a smile to someone's face(rarely with what I write,) or make them run for the dictionary, then I have had an effect on their life in a positive way. That is my personal goal: To strive my best to positively effect at least one person a day. If I can do that through poetry, then wonderful. Also, that is the same reason I post replies to others. I have thoroughly enjoyed a great many of the postings here, and try to say what's on my mind after I read someone's work. As you can see if you look at my post ratio when compared to how long I've been a member, you can see that I reply to others a lot! ------------------ Sanity is the playground for the unimaginative. |

Yes, nothing worse than a good poet in need of a stroke! I like the "strokes" too, but something about thoughtful critiques lets me know the poem is being taken as a piece of art, which is nice on a different leve. |

OK. I know I'm weird. Just look at my screen name! However, I often post so I can go back later and reread what I wrote. Now, is that twisted, or what? Naturally, I love the comments, but I also like reading some of my favorite poems several times. I am just beginning to get the nerve to provide more critical comments of other people's poetry. The 'poets' on the board I used to frequent were almost completely intolerant of critical remarks. Guess what, the quality of the poetry seemed to never improve. (OMG, did I structure that last sentence correctly? What if "Elvira the Wicked Nun School Marm reads it???) OK - summarizing. I post to be read and to store my thoughts for my own later enjoyment. So, sue me. *grin* |
