Will someone remind me what is suppose to be so happy around the holidays? Especially seeing how there are so many sick and people still at war and others that are just so poor that they are going to be going hungry. There are only like 13 more shopping days left and people are stressing like this is the last holiday they are ever going to have. This holiday season, much like the rest of them, seems rather depressing as a whole. There are people with no families to share the season with. There is a love lost somewhere between here and there. Yet, I'm searching hard to find the joy in it all. I have friends that can't even find jobs right now after they have been layed off so that the place that they are working can ship that factory overseas. I would cry if I had the tears left to shed, but they don't seem to be coming right now. I think that this piece about feelings has now officially turned into a rant.
For everyone that is working, you all well know that you have to work longer hours to make sure that deadlines are finished before the new year has started.
Show me the joy.. Show me the cheer. Either I am missing the point of the season or I'm losing the feeling for it all together.

Happy Holidays All...

Love,
Ladycat

THe first Christmas didn't seem very happy either. An oppressed people had to travel hundreds of miles away from their homes, just to please a foreign ruler. A pregnant young woman had to give birth in a barn, but what was born in the midst of that painful time in history changed the world forever. Christmas is about hope and joy, the hope that, no matter how bad the world is, there is still good working, and that we find joy in what we have, and what that good power has given to us this year. We hope for what that good can do in the next year as well

Oh, make me Thine forever
And should I fainting be
Lord, let me never ever
Outlive my love for Thee

AT WHITE DEER SPRING

A little fishpond, just over two feet square,
and not terribly deep.
A pair of goldfish swim in it
as freely as if in a lake.
Like bones of mountains among icy autumn clouds
tiny stalagmites pierce the rippling surface.
For the fish, it is a question of being alive—
they don't worry about the depth of the water.

The struggle during the holidays is to carry it within ourselves...all of the responses above are that message.  It is the greater picture, the one we sometimes cannot see for all of the trees.  The reasons behind all that we are not aware of, and the why of it.

Most place so much on the commercialism, which is a shame...the media is after us to make not only others, but ourselves [me, me, me] happy, with this gift, that expenditure...nutz.

It is so easy to forget to see the biggest gift of all...

our love for each other, the reasons we can stand free in our country and can discount it as crass; we forget the silver linings and hide our sorrows in tinsel just to see light reflected...and don't get me wrong, I love to decorate for the holidays...but I'm not driving myself stupid over it anymore..."less is more" theory evolves...

making more room for family, friends, and yes, even strangers...

Ah, Lady...I am rambling...and without the eggnog.  In a nutshell...we have to be the mirror.  Even during our sorrow.  Simplify Christmas, get it back to the basics?  You'll find a deep, true sense of belief in what can be...and the tears behind the smile will be for the joy of what has been given us, for all time...

Know your gifts well, m'dear, and wrap your loved ones with your hugs and kisses...

and an orange in the stocking doesn't hurt.
