5487 Never to be Lost 21 June 2006 This mother, this child oldest to her birth The likeness, a mirror such beauty adjoined Each smile, bananas in taste content, love, unity refined This flavour of togetherness an aroma of parental delight For unto the morrow neither in truth departed Pain and hurt, a travail of happening to know value was a badge well worn This symbol of tranquillity the pen to a page of ink To look forward, to read back A mind of thoughtfulness never to be lost “We pray for the daughters of Zion. May they be preserved in virtue, chastity, and purity of life, be blessed with vigorous bodies and minds, and with great faith. May they develop into true womanhood and receive choice companions under the new and everlasting covenant for time and all eternity in thy temples provided for this priceless privilege and purpose. May they too be privileged to enjoy as the fruits of their union a noble posterity which, we pray thee, may be taught at their mother’s knee to believe in thee and in the divine mission of thy Beloved Son.” (President George Albert Smith, dedicatory prayer of the Idaho Falls Temple, USA [23 September 1945]; The Improvement Era, October 1945, 563) © 2006 Christopher W Herbert (a New Zealand Poet) a poet who cares |
