The Lighthouse by the Sea

(Sonnet)

Moist, milky, opalescent, fog bank drifts
Reluctant mystic moonlight’s evening dress
Away from naked shoulders still caressed
Where backwashed rocky shore meets surging rift
Here stands the Lighthouse opulent erect
Implored by Sea to mingle on her shore
Thus stands the Lighthouse firm forevermore
A pillar grandiose in sure respect
But not for Sea would e’er he be at all
For not for Sea would wayward merchants call
To save their souls from raging tempest squall
Yes, it was Sea that held his heart enthralled
To live by her and take her as his bride
And shine his Love where Sea and land collide.

Lighthouse Bob

Dixie,

Thank you. I guess we're on mutual ground regarding theme... Now, that was a short passing. Are you back already? Smiles. Seriously, I hope that your move goes very smooth for you and that you will be back with us on line really really soon. -Bob

Earth Angel,

Thank you Dear for your very kind reply. These are some of my most favorite subjects as well. This poem was a bit more difficult for me to write because I wanted to incorporate a sense of sensuality to my subject matter and, now, I do believe by your response that I was able to pull this one off a bit. Thanks for sharing. -Bob

(Smiles) So Glad that you found Me... (hummmm) the poem I mean. As a side note, in case you want to read some more poems about a Lighthouse, look for Dark Angel. She has written a whole series about the Lighthouse and it was her series that inspired me to write this one. Thanks soooo much for reading my poem and thank you for your kind comment. -Bob

Susan Caldwell,

I'm so "excited" that you found the poem behind the poetry here. (Smiles, I love that
phrase) As I noted earlier, this poem was a bit more difficult for me to write because I did
want to accomplish just that... the poem behind the poetry. Thank you for reading and
thank you so very much for being attentive and sensitive to find the poem behind the
poetry.  (I do love that phrase) Thank you for sharing. -Bob

Ethel,

I love your "sigtag" (Good Job) and it does go perfect with my poem. I'm sooo glad that you love Lighthouses I love you too.  I do need to be careful here, though.... (smiles) Gary might get Jealous. Seriously, I am very glad that you could relate to my thoughts here and do hope that they perhaps touched you and/or inspired you in some way. Again, thank you for reading, for sharing, and for your kind feedback. -Bob

I echo eternal child, I'm speechless here. This is truly a stunning illustration of a lighthouse Bob. You describe her and her surround magnificently, I'm in awe. The flow, the rhyme..I wish I could write of the lighthouse as you have done. A sonnet, the perfect walz for the lighthouse

it's a

and Thank you.

How did you get that great script for the title?! It's not one of the ones in the formatting above.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Dark Angel,

It's such an amazing thrill to know that you approve and to receive such wonderful commendation from you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. As Ethel has written (Thank you garysgirl), I really did "moon" your writing of the Lighthouse on this one. I was so motivated to write this poem right after reading your poem about the two making love and the thoughts of the Lighthouse, I could just picture you (the poetess) in my mind actually watching all of this transpire... You are an extraordinary writer and it has been my great honor to "moon" you and, yes, it would be my honor to "moon" you at any time in the future. (Smiles) Love ya. -Bob

You need no excuse to come in and read me anytime. Your presence and replies are always (Always) Welcome, but then again, I do most certainly understand your obsession here for the Lighthouse. (Smiles) I really do like this font that I use for the title here as well. The font style is "Gigi" and I do use it now quite a bit. Again, thank you for stopping in and for your kind reply. -Bob

Dear Margherita,

"The inseparable bond..." I love that expression... and it is most certainly the fundamentals of marriage. The Lighthouse and the Sea have set an absolute perfect personification for us. (Smiles) You do have a most marvelous gifting of discovering, pointing out, and then reflecting back the very very best of me. Thank you. -Bob

SEA,

I know. I know. I know. You found me out! I couldn't help it... You've got the perfect pen name and all and, yes, you personify so very very well here in this poem. (Smiles) The Lighthouse and the Sea. Who wouldn't be inspired after reading Dark Angel's poem about love making and all???     I'm blushing in humility, my poetess friend, but at the same time, I'm beaming in thankfulness that you "Loved" my poem. Thank You. Thank you. Thank you.  -Bob

Beki,

Thank you so very much for the "bravo!" I so appreciate that. Thank you. I do think that lighthouses are kind of heavenly in stature as they "appear" to stand rigid against the forces of Mother Nature and unmoved by the passage of time. I also think that lighthouses are quite masculine in their appearance, but I will not go into detail... (smiles) and, now, I do know that Mother Nature and Sea are certainly hands up on the Lighthouse as so witnessed by the recent disaster.  Thanks for reading and for your very kind reply. -Bob

Ahhhh, Thank you, Musical One, for your lovely reply, although, I'm not altogether convinced about why you lost your breath... Because of reading my poem or because you were running late??? (Smiles) Only joking. I do know that your response here on this poet's posting will never be considered late, but always right on time. Bob...

this flows...
I know, for I have read it
several times,
and got lost in its waves
and opulence...

and finally I have a chance
to respond, because some clever poet
pushed it up as they knew
I had to see it once again...

and I thank you for posting in Open...
where I think you need to be
a bit more often...

so share yourself from Spiritual to here...
and from here to there...

you will find a whole new different, similar, kind world...

welcome to Open, Bob...
