Euphoric Eloquence There are words falling all around me ... yet, I am at a loss, lacking voice. I understand now, it is by choice. So I question everything ... exploring each edge, following the curves of my constant curiosity. This wonder and wanderlust of water and how the sky sequesters me. I only breathe when I am immersed in blues and greens. I only exist when in motion with the currents of creeks swirling over stone, of rivers winding between white bluffs, of lakes lapping sandy banks. All of which hold me a "woman in waiting" until my reprise to the reverie of shorelines cadenced by wave curls. 'Til then I am resplendently restless ... urged on by all that I have yet to witness. Enticed by euphoric explorations and defined by the discoveries, seduced by the sky in it's resonating rituals of renewal. Time and again I am drawn here, returning to where trees whisper the truths of the wind and rocks keep the secrets of water. And I wonder if this creek I worship, is as impressed with the ripples I make in my water inspired awakening. Still, no words have I, that would justify the depth my spirit is eloquently effected by the echo of water spilling across mosaic. It is in these prophecy promised moments, ancient legacies handed down by seasons in change, that I am baptized in sacred waters, allowing me to be intimate with earth and sky. There are words falling all around me ... shattering, scattering like stars, staining, straining to be heard, remaining unwritten, unspoken. Their colors sustain me, Their silence contains me, all that's never said, will be what explains me. ~*~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ *photos taken at Castlewood State Park* I would love to live as a river flows, carried by the surprise of its own unfolding. ~Fluent~ John O'Donohue |

"all that's never said, will be what explains me." That's because this woman who loves words defies definition, not knowing that she is the muse... That is you and you are so beautiful, Jan. Smiling wide and hugging me. thanks for this'n |

JM, You leave me speechless and prove that we are a very signficant part of everything...what explains me, you ask? Perhaps quit simply, we are indeed a part of His plan...and are so honored to be...can you imagine where we'd be if we'd learn to accept that? It is far beyond what any religion could interrupt...but, you, here, have touched it, felt it, and sensed all true being...well done! |

you guys sure know how to make a moths day. Thank you so much for these replies...and I'll be back in a bit to reply to each, but I wanted to share some more views of this amazing place, I am so lucky this is less than a 10 minute drive. I hope you all will do a search and see whats close to you and find your own special place. If you live close to any river or larger lake, chances are there is some kind of reserve or park near it. It is such an amazing release to walk along this river, see the sky thru the canopy of trees, feel the depth of the woods in its shade...and you just have to find a rock to claim, sit and listen to the rhythms of the water...*sigh* Take an old pair of shoes and get in the water... its "gleeeeeeeeeee" defined. *wink* I would love to live as a river flows, carried by the surprise of its own unfolding. ~Fluent~ John O'Donohue |

J, I had to go back and reread this, savor it's depth. Not often do I offer what you can call "critique" but I can tell you what I drew from this, so for the first time ever here I go.. There are words falling all around me ... yet, I am at a loss, lacking voice. I understand now, it is by choice. This statement is so pure in thought and truth, with heart on sleeve honesty and the reader can feel the understanding of it within. So I question everything ... exploring each edge, following the curves of my constant curiosity. This makes me realize how I am not alone in this very same feeling...this need to not just know, but understand.... This draws the reader into this poem, it screams of I want to see tomorrow, live it, experience it. Enticed by euphoric explorations and defined by the discoveries, seduced by the sky in it's resonating rituals of renewal. Time and again I am drawn here, returning to where trees whisper the truths of the wind and rocks keep the secrets of water. The calmness of the spirit when one is in that safe place that sometimes only each indiviual can claim as their own. I can sense that feeling in these words. And I wonder if this creek I worship, is as impressed with the ripples I make in my water inspired awakening. Impressed? Me thinks more like in awe of your spirit and grace gal. This is a feeling of oneness with nature and is so simplisitic but so very beautiful. There are words falling all around me ... shattering, scattering like stars, staining, straining to be heard, remaining unwritten, unspoken. Their colors sustain me, Their silence contains me, all that's never said, will be what explains me. You wrap it up nicely with this closing Janet. There is a need to understand self, and have the world understand us. This is who I am, with total acceptance. Me mothy friend, you have out done yourself. and me, I am sitting here smiling... at the beauty of you. {I wanna cry like the rain Cry like the rain Shine like the sun on a beautiful mornin' Sing to the heavens like a church bell ringin' Fight with the devil and go down swingin' Fly like a bird Roll like a stone Love like I aint afraid to be alone Take everything that this world has to give I wanna take any breath I can get I wanna live } Josh Gracin [This message has been edited by Gentle Spirit (08-10-2004 11:45 AM).] |

I have learned so much here, and found so much inspiration..even though I go months in between writing....but I have come to realize that as much as I love writing poetry, I understand that sometimes things are felt so deeply that I just cant encompass it in words...and that just feeling it is enough. I guess me and my moody muse made peace in the creek.. LOL thanks everyone... very much I would love to live as a river flows, carried by the surprise of its own unfolding. ~Fluent~ John O'Donohue |

I know... I'm seriously late for the party. *S* But... *making excuses for myself* ... that means I get the benefit of the poem and photos and comments all at once! *S* When I first read this, I didn't think I'd be able to choose a favorite passage because the entirety is so beautiful. *S* But with these words "So I question everything ... exploring each edge, following the curves of my constant curiosity." I think you captured part of what being a poet is... looking beyond the obvious for the inevitable layers. *S* Excellent work! *S* |

All of which hold me a "woman in waiting" until my reprise to the reverie of shorelines cadenced by wave curls. I could of course do what you do and cut and paste the entire piece but I won't as this simply created a flood of euphoric emotions that are very hard to put a name to right now. I do know one thing ~ I could kick myself for missing this and now I know what you were talking about the other day. It has such a ethereal, and restoring effect on me. The next few weeks are going to be taken with the move and I know I wont have many chances to go there till we get settled in so I went for it. I always have me creek shoes in the car. lol thank you Sharon. This paints such a vivid picture of both the outdoors and introspection. A message well written and well received. It speaks to me in layers, on so many levels. I have written many words, and ready myriad more; however, it is rare that you find a writing that is composed of such brilliance that it rivals the writings of our most revered poets. I was absolutely in awe of the deftness, the flow, and the meanings contained in this poem. You are incredibly gifted. This should find printed pages very easily. A keeper for sure! This would be one for the record books if you asked me. Thank you for sharing it. Warm regards, Kevin |

"Janet Marie - Critique Message: I can only grow as a writer when I am able to see my words thru another's eyes...Constructive criticism is always welcome." bklynboy - I am sorry you had such trouble interpreting this piece of beautiful poetry. There is a wonderful site called dictionary.com http://dictionary.reference.com/ that I wish to suggest as a tool to keep open while reading poetry that might get you through exceptional work with more ease. I wouldn't want you to miss out on as to why this piece got so many responses (45 is not at all unusual for this writer.) We grow in our own writing from reading the work from those that use metaphors, and emotions poetically correct, and we should indeed thank them for their efforts. These poets teach us to be better writers ourselves. Speaking for myself, this piece actually personifies the elements through the words of this author (personify = To think of or represent (an inanimate object or abstraction) as having personality or the qualities, thoughts, or movements of a living.) In other words, she succeeded in bringing to life a simple creek, stream, or flow of water, and connected it to human emotions through a (Poem = Writing that formulates a concentrated imaginative awareness of experience in language chosen and arranged to create a specific emotional response through meaning, sound, and rhythm) Oh ... I just came back to say thank you for writing this calm and gentle piece of work in the chaos of my day. ![]() |

Donna, Sharon, Dunc ... thank you for the return visits. ![]() ![]() bklynboy ... I'm not really sure how to respond to your "average question" ... and I wont be able to say it as eloquently as Sharon just did...But I can assure you I am quite "average" ... I have not attended college, have not taken any advanced writing courses...on a good day I cant spell or type. When I came to Pips...I didn't have a clue to what a personification or an alliteration was, more or less metaphor or meter...but after reading all the talented writing here, I have learned so much and it inspired me to want to try to write in new styles, learn new things...and isn't that one of the goals of a poet? To broaden their skills...learn new and better ways to express themselves? Broaden our vocabulary? Well, thats the gift I was given here... room to grow and then I was blessed with the acceptance and encouragment of my fellow poets. As to why all the replies? like I said...I am blessed with the support of many special people, OR-- maybe they just wanted to play in the creek with me. ![]() Chris... hey girlie...so glad you came and took a dip with me...Im glad you have a special place like this too... we need to have that to just get away and reconnect when things get too crazy. nah, Dunc. It's prolly just a chromosome. ![]() (That, me brooklyn boy, can be found in the dictionary under the letter "C", btw...it just sounds like a "k"--drat the English language anyway!") Forgive me if I'm a little testy. This lovely lady graces these blue pages with devotion, love, study and deserves more respect when she shares her own offerings than that, my unfriendly friend. Your snide comment is unworthy of such a lady as this, and is indicative of who has an abacus for a heart and who has poetry in HERS. She's such a lady, in fact, she probably disapproves of my own dig back at you, but I did it anyway. That was just damned insulting. |

Gee I struck a nerve and to that I apologize. It was never my intention to upset the fine people here on this mutual admiration society. Janet, I appreciate your comments and I have read your works for a while and you are good and getting better. To my other detractors, I am not rude but I guess just painfully honest. The average poster on this board receives 10-12 comments. I was curious as to why this particular contribution received so many. I was thinking out loud with my fingers rather than my lips. I appreciate the link to the dictionary but my educational background probably far exceeds most who participate here. But thanks anyway. I do find it amusing however that people have the time to reply to so many postings. I guess when you don't have anything better to do, this is as good as anything. My humbliest apologies to everyone or anyone I may have offended, upset or otherwise pissed off. I have beat myself up over this and enjoyed it so much I did it again. So if I ever chose to write what I were feeling, I can beat myself up again because I like the pain. Those who choose can retaliate with your venomous words but like a water on a ducks back, it just slides off! |

![]() I fugured you got so many replies because you were so long winded...lmao... brevity brevity brevity.... but then again... the short form often denies beauty the subtle play of repeated sounds that mimic and reflect such a thing as moving water on stone or gravel.. the wind.. and the groan of trees in a breeze... maybe it's a country thing.. and beng a rather illiterate hillbilly I don't know any better.. LOL Of course... there is the overall rarity of your posting these days.. which makes it an occaision... and the fact that you have supported and commented in depths on so many people's poems that the opportunity to comment on one of yours is a treat... then again.. there is the fact that regardless of how anyone might want to make or think this place is about objective comments on poetry, it is a community of people who enjoy poetry..and may or may not.. make comments due to personal ties as much as anything... but for me... being the dumb country hick I am... I just like rivers and streams.. and the images as well as the words.. take me back to places I have been..and remind me I have places yet to go.. so for that JM.. thank you... |

maybe it's a country thing lol at Ron, and thanks for saying it. Sometimes we don't get much more country than this, and Janet, you poem reminds me of when I lived very near a place like this...and still wish that I did... so I THANK YOU for writing it more eloquent than I could have, and just for writing it.... for all of us mothy poets out here. ![]() |

bklynboy ... this typed medium is easily misread, often words are taken differently than intended...and sometimes we may not always choose our words well, we poets can be over emotional creatures. Ron built this house on a foundation of respect and tolerance, its that premise and comfort zone that allows us the room to grow as writers and feel safe in stepping outside our usual styles. We each are here for our own reasons ... some make "being here" and their writing a priority, some prefer to read poetry rather than watch TV or other daily activities. Should anyone have to justify their level of participation... I hope not. I thank you for the time you have given to my work. Sharon, Sen, Ron, Dunc, Donna, thank you for caring and being protective... I love ya for having me mothy back...*heart hugs* Me thinks its time for some more pics... anyone wanna go play in the creek? go fishing? Hiking? I'll bring the picnic basket and the stink bait...LOL Peace poets... I would love to live as a river flows, carried by the surprise of its own unfolding. ~Fluent~ John O'Donohue |

Stink bait? Pretty sure I can answer that for ya Sharon. You know all those sappy, Tigerboyeeeee poems the moth writes in weak moments??? Well, when she's all done, I feed 'em into this contraption I invented, which adds a bit of this and that, until the finished product pops out the other end as...Stink bait. ![]() |

I should have known ![]() Up here, we use salmon roe, cured in borax to catch fish, and it works like a hot darn. Maybe this would catch her a tiger by the tail? Who knows, it's worth a shot. Stink bait is a general term for any type of fish bait that has a strong odor. Used primarily for catfish, it often contains liver which is well aged. Some of the old timers I grew up with made their own out of chicken livers. They are about the right size for the hook, and if left to age by themselves in a warm place take no time at all to ripen into a catfish catching bouquet of semi rotted meat. I have heard of late, that remnants of the unfinished poetry attempted by Duncan can be used in the place of chicken livers, but that it doesn't stay on the hook as well due to a lack of substance.. ![]() LMAO |

pushed back to page two huh? mind if i bump ya back to the front? i'm sure i'm the only one who hasn't read this yet, anyway. :-P yet, I am at a loss, lacking voice. I understand now, it is by choice. So I question everything ... exploring each edge, following the curves of my constant curiosity. we're still in snych, and that kinda scares me. ![]() I only exist when in motion with the currents of creeks swirling over stone, of rivers winding between white bluffs, of lakes lapping sandy banks. i get this feeling every time i paddle out and wait for the next wave... There are words falling all around me... ...Their silence contains me, all that's never said, will be what explains me. good god, that's poetry it's not that the future is near or far... |

"This wonder and wanderlust of water and how the sky sequesters me. I only breathe when I am immersed in blues and greens." I came back for another read, and realized how much this part affected me. You are poetry, m'friend. And as I quickly scanned a handful of other replies, to my surprise JM is also a photographer par excellence! I am so glad that this got bumped up, I missed it when it first got posted... Janet Marie The words are fluid, like the river that runs through the story line, I want to float away on them, see where they take me... Could Thoreau awaken, he would ask "what was that noise, it sounded like a timeless poet had skipped a stone on Walden"..I know he would nod and say "carry on" Excellent poem, enjoyed greatly ----------ice ><> Come read to me some poem, |

Donna & msflame... thanks so much for coming by and enjoying the view...yes I am very lucky...I actually live in a large suburban town..every store you need a block away...but we are far enough west of the city limits that I have several state parks, and the lake within 20 minutes drive from here...and several more very cool places on the river just a half hour or so. The only thing missing is an ocean... eventually I hope to live on the beach in a bago. LOL thanks for your lovely replies... heres a few more pics. |

Sharon and Kacy... Im using a 35 mm SLR ... the site ( Shutterfly) that I send my photos to for developing basicly turns them into digital quality and uploads them at very high resolution, thats why they are so sharp... some of the pics have been "saturated" with color...but... the color has to already be there...I cant change the colors..or warp in things that werent there to start with like you can in photo shop programs and etc...the blue for example was already there..I can enhance it and bring out what is lost to bright sunlight, reflection etc... the blue water is what was in the shade up under the trees...I took those in late afternoon. The one with the rocks close up...those are leaves and different colored rocks under the current. Shutterfly is very cool...check em out ..its free to join and you can email your pics to people and make cool gifts with your own photos. www.shutterfly.com Rdz9 .. thank you for your reply...I'll take an amazing no matter how many times its said. ![]() thanks for coming by... Awe Janet Marie, I promised I would be back... ======================================== Time and again I am drawn here, returning to where trees whisper the truths of the wind and rocks keep the secrets of water. ======================================== And where my friend shares her wisdom without effort or expectation. Drawn by what you have absorbed and share so freely. Emotions expressed with ease and pictures painted in letters as pretty as leaves. No need for rain when tears flow so easy. Life so rich and full found, of course, at the source of this stream of words. Bless you sweet friend for saving up for this. ![]() If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again. |

This eve a hollow heart turns toward sky Searching again for a twinkle in your eye The one that will to "blue" say all is fine All that was needed ... was just a little time Messages of cherish resting in Luna's glow Lighting a trust you had once come to know Heart speaking out to put all the fears to rest As you photograph words in front of the best With all visions soaring above shores of peace Yesterday's storms will falter in winds of release An embrace of serenity massages tempo of wind While wisps of words dance to the rhythm's bend ************************* You already know my thoughts on this, but I did want to leave a little response to eloborate since the tides have now come into the fall and changed direction. Tis a cool current swimming in the blue this season, but the blue is still the blue that you had never seen before. Awesome pics btw. Who woulda thunk you could teach a moth how to click instead of cluck in nightime burn. Seriously, I think this is one of your best and I do love to see you stretch. "yet, I am at a loss, lacking voice. I understand now, it is by choice." That is why ya have a camera, it can talk without the waka waka wake! ![]() "Time and again I am drawn here, returning to where trees whisper the truths of the wind and rocks keep the secrets of water." geeeezz girlie !!! whatcha got in the raspberry tea? Trees whispering????? ( YA KNOW I taught how to hear that one) but the rocks keeping secrets ... well, ya talked them into that yourself. "Their colors sustain me, Their silence contains me, all that's never said, will be what explains me." I knew there had to be an explanation somewhere, somehow, by someone, to explain how a moth could type. I can't wait to hear it either.
