A Scotsman’s Word

I’ve wronged you very badly,
So now I have to be
Man enough to tell you so,
And do it publicly.

It’s bad enough when rudeness
Offends another’s mind.
I gave an insult to your spirit,
That’s the cruelest kind.

Because my thoughtless words
Have left me so in debt,
I’ll only ask you to forgive;
I dare not say forget.

In time, I hope I can erase
The anger I’ve incurred;
And I’ll never treat you so again,
You have a Scotsman’s word.

And I hope it’s enough. I hurt ye lass, and I want to make it up. I can’t guarantee I’ll never give hurt again, but if I do it won’t be this hurt, and it won’t be for lack of consideration. No need to brag what it was, you know and I know, and that’s enough.

                   Sincerely,
                   Jamie

I don't know which is lovelier... the apology or the acceptance... I just know that this thread touches me deeply... and that two poets I admire greatly have once again shown a tremendous amount of class. *S*

wouldn't it be a much better world, if everyone felt like this, and openly admitted to who they are, what they've done, and really felt humbled and sorry for what they've done....it would vine honesty and a desire to see others succeed, wouldn't it?

Astounding poem, very warmly enjoyed.
