The Night Light Stuck awake at three I give up sleep; I always do, and follow the hum to my computer, grope the mouse until the world flares to a site. Some friends are here, blue pages and their words, some with pictures, and after a few, the verse, the friendly banter, this one. It’s a poem by a pretty lady, though her words belie the glowing smile that flashes from my screen. She sounds so plaintive as she paints her scene, a losing love at last rejected, then a cry against the loneliness she craves, a craving for the love she’s turned away. My mind detuned at last though melancholy now, I know I’ll sleep. I leave her there, the screen on. It will light my way, and somehow I can’t turn it off just now. A little waste in this, but there’s a timer. For a while her sunny smile will brighten up the room, then later when I don’t see, she will wink to nothing, all alone here in the dark. Don't take this the wrong way: this poem made me picture "Sy The Photo Guy" from ONE HOUR PHOTO with Robin Williams... this paints a solemn, lonely, caring, and serenely accepting of circumstances kind of scenario... Well done, moving, and thought-provoking... -MVS You CAN make a difference: |

Ed...A sensitive portrayal...and pretty nice to have a poet light your way down the hall as a night light. |

Thanks for the peek into your nightlife. Somehow I thought it would be more exciting than mine, but heck. Nan (Pilgrim variety) |

Yep, Sunshine, I was moved.... although the poem wasn't(isn't) exactly as I described it here...but that's my secret.... And Nan...it's my day life that gets interesting sometimes....if that's the right word....middle of the night is steady-state except for dreams about the day stuff....!!! ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸ ¸¸ºº> ~~~(¸¸ER¸¸ºº> ______________Ratleader______________ [This message has been edited by Ratleader (05-15-2003 11:14 AM).] |

I am filled with emotion when reading all the wonderful poetry on here...It is in that pause that I become pensive, or laugh out loud, and often times I can't help my tears. You've captured the feeling so well, and that of many others I'm sure. Thank you for moving me with your heartfelt words. This is truly a gift! |
