For Pippa, Sara-Jane, and James and all of New Zealand and all of the sailing world and all the people of the earth He sails tonight on a different sea His red socks waving goodbye, part of his wondrous legacy. A giant on the seas from New Zealand's breeze Your mainsail trimmed in the final wind. Your mission of love on the Amazon will not be forgotten nor will the adventures of your Seamaster. Goodbye Sir Peter Blake, may your heart sail forever on more peaceful seas. Sir Peter Blake, New Zealand America's cup winner The Seamaster, formerly Cousteau's Antarctic Explorer FYI, Sir Peter Blake was murdered last night on his ship the Seamaster, while in harbor on the Amazon River. The following is an exerpt from his final log: "The quality of water and the quality of life in all its infinite forms are critical parts of the overall ongoing health of this planet of ours, not just here in the Amazon, but everywhere. We want to restart people caring for the environment as it must be cared for. To win, you have to believe you can do it. You have to be passionate about it. You have to really "want" the result, even if this means years of work. The hardest part of any big project is to begin. We have begun, we are underway, we have a passion. We want to make a difference. Kind regards, Peter." http://www.blakexpeditions.com/flash.htm [This message has been edited by Midnitesun (edited 12-07-2001).] |

Kacy, So when I'm up on current events you offer an explanation! What a tragic event to a man so young who was contributing so much to our world. It is a pity, but a fitting tribute. Well done. Sin isn't fair, but God got even, grace isn't fair either. larry c |

So sad to find out.....he is sailing away in perfectly calm waters now, never to be disturbed again. He will live on. God bless America, my home sweet home. |

Thank you all for helping to say goodbye to this wonderful adventurer, whose reason (to my knowledge anyway) for visiting the Amazon river was to heighten our environmental awareness of the importance of protecting the Amazon, for our survival as a species, and survival of our Mother Earth. |

Midnitesun, We all need a passion that is for sure. Again a fine tribute! The past is history and the future is a mystery, but today is a gift and that is why it is the present! |

Thank you, Larry. We all need to be passionately involved in protecting Mother Earth. Sir Blake was a true hero, in my eyes. I will truly miss him, and hope there will be others who will bravely jump in to help fill the huge void he leaves behind. |

Sad..sad information. A traveler, a protector, a tamer, an adventurer with heart. So unfair to go that way. You are most lovely and endearing in this write. And sail he will in higher seas. Thank you for this! Sincerely, Regina |

Elizabeth, so glad you stopped by. This was indeed a very special man who was taken from us yesterday. Startime, thanks. I am still in shock over this one. Sir Peter was an amazingly beautiful soul, with so much to share. This is truly a tragedy. |

A most beautiful tribute, Kathleen to a very deserving person. I have done lots of sailing in my life and have spent a lot of time on the waters of Lake Michigan...so my heart goes out to all of his family and friends who will miss him terribly...and of course, the entire world public too! copyright2001 Lyra Nesius |

Lyra, thank you for reading. He was an awesome sailor, winning the America's cup, and also the Jules Verne award. But even more importantly, to me anyway, was his work to bring the environmental issues of global warming and the preservation of the Amazon that made him a hero to me. dg, you can always follow the above link to learn more about the Seamaster, and the Blake expedition. Thanks for your reply. |

If in the act of dying, brings more awareness to what we are losing in our seas, waters, and land, then no life is in vain..Wonderful tribute, Kacy, very much indeed...very gentle smile |

Logan, thank you. Those were my very thoughts last night, and one of the reasons I wrote the goodbye, within 5 minutes of getting the news. The poem is pathethic as far as poetry is concerned, but it was simply to highlight a man's life and work that should not go unnoticed. If you read Sir Peter's log, you will see the poetry and soul of the man. Eagle Scorpion, thanks for the reply. Jo Mason, please follow the link provided to learn a bit more. |

Aye aye sir, and thank you for reading it. My only regret is that it is not terribly poetic, just the bare bones truth. And I am wearing my red socks again today. For those who may not understand this reference to the red socks, Sir Peter kept wearing the same pair of red socks throughout the entire sailing race when his New Zealand team won the coveted America's Cup for sailing...TWICE. |
