Starched Petunias ~*Marge Tindal*~ Here they stand attentive waiting for the wind Holding on - not letting go yet willing to bend Starched petunias stand the ready in the guarded aftermath Let no wind blow - their subtle glow off the garden path Peaceful gardens of tomorrow sown in seeds of yesterday Starched petunias, are you ready to spread your splendorous array ? ~*~ Sometimes the muses bring one to share that even I don't understand~ Must be a reason~ And then I went to look for a graphic ... and I found a fascinating story ... just meant to be, I reckon~ ~*~ Petunias -- That's for Remembrance Dorothy Canfield Illustrations - E.M. Ashe Scribner's Magazine New York April 1912 ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] [This message has been edited by Marge Tindal (edited 10-22-2001).] |

I don't know what a starched Petunia is. I don't even know what an unstarched Petunia is. Heck, I don't know what a Petunia is other than a flower of some sort. I do know good poetry when I read it, though Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write. |

I for one adore the scent of petunias, and this caught me up quite well, indeed.... never, ever question from where you muse comes... nope. I won't either! |

Well I love this big time! I see starched petunias a few times a week (the sweetest older ladies you would ever want to know), and are they going to love this. Must have been a starched petunia visited one of your muse's in the night and told her that she felt a bit forgotten? I know the ones I see, sure feel that way. Marge, I adored this one. Try giving your smile to someone who does not have one, and I bet you'll find another. ~* Mysteria *~ |

Thanks for the read, friends. The link is inaccessible so I'm removing it. BUT, the story is easily found on the Internet. If you have a few moments to search for it, just type petunias into your browser or Dorothy Canfield and it should bring up a link to a fascinating story entitled - Petunias - That's For Remembrance By Dorothy Canfield, Published 1912. Thank you all~ *Hugs* ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ |

I sort of had a vision of starched "bloomers" but I can't tell you why without getting into trouble so let's just leave it at .... So nice to see you grabbing the thoughts when they dance in your pretty lil' head. ge gv yuhi Maga |

quote: we learned a long time ago not to question those special and MANY muses of yours... we just take our delight in all that you write... and this is DELIGHTFUL.... what a very cool turn of phrase "starched petunia" is... and you took it and made it poetically perfect. me This distance has shown how the road remains alone |

A gentle smile and a nod. Death comes not when we cease to breathe, but when we cease to dream. |

*Thank you all ... I truly hope that you've taken the time to read something that Dorothy Canfield (Fisher) has written. I know Vicky and Trillium/BettyLou and I have enjoyed her writings very much. Starched Petunia's was just a phrase that popped out of thin air ... brought to me by my muse, Ayrasela ... I didn't know why ... until my search for a petunia graphic to put with the piece led me to the writings of Dorothy~ Now I smile in knowing why~ *Hugs* ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ |

Marge--This really touched me...the graphic with the poem, pulled some precious memories from the cedar chest. Thank you! |

Marge - this is a lovley tribute to older blossoms with lingering blush on their petals. Chris Life is not measured by breaths you take, but by moments that take your breath away. |
