Let Me Be Let me be the steam of breath between two lovers in the fall, the shadow of an ancient oak, if but for an hour, a single cricket, singing in the night. Let me be the laughter of a child, the breeze that falling day stirs, or the liquid crimson left behind upon the sky. Let me be a drop of dew in morning's early light, clinging to a wildflower and mirroring the surrounding landscape, a ripple left behind by swimming Mallard, the smile on a mothers lips when the child she's just delivered is placed against her breast. Let me be the stroke of an artists brush, the sensual curves of woman, a blossoming rose, welcoming and nourishing a hummingbird. Let me be a hug that is given to an old person alone and in need of hope, the touch of fingertips against silk, a raindrop replenishing withered grasses. Let me be a firefly that is chased by children carrying jars, the afterglow of passions spent, a tidal pool sustaining life until the sea returns, a fallen leaf, floating on a crisp autumn day. Let me be the joy, or torn wrapping paper on a Christmas morn, the faith felt during a prayer, the fresh scent on air after a thunderstorm. Let me be jewels tossed on an ocean, reflecting in the sun, worn, forgotten shoes that knew so many steps, tired eyelids that settle into sleep, the music of an icy mountain stream. Let me be a snowflake that helps create a winter scene, whispers heard in lovemaking, a tear of joy, a moment of peace, a poet that feeds the human heart and calms its restlessness, or just let me be me. Janet Marie, Your posts on my poems are always something I look forward to. Thank you. Lauren, Thank you for the sweet compliment, my friend. I think all poets feed the heart in their own way. Martie, Knowing that something I've written inspires someone else to write is always a thrill for me. Thank you, my friend. Walker, I'm glad you loved this one. I had to stop before it became a book. There are so many lovely things I could've put in this. Thank you. Sy, Greeneyes? Well, my eyes are kinda green. :-) Sorry, I know you meant Lauren. Just messing with you. Thanks for stopping by and reading. Sami, What a sweet thing to say. Thank you and thanks for reading. Gentle Spirit, I love knowing that my gentle and kind nature somehow shows through in what I write. I appreciate you noticing and I thank you, sincerely, for your nice comments. Marge, You say the sweetest things. Thank you, my friend. Deer, An "excellent" coming from you truly means a lot to me. Thank you, sir. Mysteria, Oh my...I haven't had my writing complimented like this in a good while. I can't tell you how good this makes me feel. Thank you so much. Proust- |

Let me be your raincoat when dark clouds form overhead Let me be the comforter you snuggle with in bed Let me be the medicine to ease your misery Should you believe you're all alone, let your thoughts be of me. Let me be the tissue that you use to dry your tears Let me be arms open wide to override your fears Let me be a quiet thought you keep inside your brain Should life sing you a song of sadness, make me your refrain. Let me be the feel of evening breeze upon your cheek When you describe emotions, let me be the words you speak Let me be your summer day when winter comes with chill If weakness causes you to falter, let me be your will. Let me be the melody to chase away the blues When you need easy listening, let me be the one you choose Let me be the sunshine to make darkness fade from view And, most of all, I pray that you will let me be...with you. |

Deer, An excellent piece of writing. I wish I'd included a few of your images in my own poem. (can I swipe them?) Michael Proust- |

I'd read Martie's poem that was inspired by this... so when I saw the title, I was nodding in agreement. *S* And you were so right... except that liking is far too mild a term! *G* This is wonderful! And Bal... your poetic response is beautiful! |

Truly a gifted wordsmith you are. I doubt I could add any more to the fine things already said. Thankyou for the travel into places of the heart. A.M. [This message has been edited by Amuse_mi (edited 04-25-2001).] |
