In the winds of Cherokee song

0 posted 2001-01-05 08:42 PM

First Dance Of Second Chance

The room was filled
with swirling masses of song
cluttered with the chatter
of a thousand voices
all clamoring to be heard
above the notes of beauty.

This did not distract him
as his eyes fixed themselves
in a trance upon the brunette swirls
of her glistening hair.
Her eyes lit up the room
in the wonder
of a searching heart
as if seeing for the first time
a life apart from what
she had become so familiar with.

The brilliant lights
were rebounding
off the juke box in the corner
where the echoes of the bass
were flooding the very atmosphere
where she drew her next breath.
Her lips were frozen
in the weakened smile
as all her friends joined others
on the dance floor
to give their feet a chance to mingle
among the heavy steps of partners.

Never once did she notice him
slowly fighting his way
through the crowd ...
his determined walk tossing aside
the glances of strangers
stumbling onto his quested path.
His eyes fixed to their stare
as he hoped he would not be too late
at arriving in front of her table
to tip his hat
and softly hold out his hand
as he spoke ... "Pardon me miss ...
may I have this dance?"

Her eyes followed up the long trail
where leather boots
quickly turned to denim
hugging the colorful fabric
of vision with a brief pause
around the golden glimmer
of metal
and then flowing
up to the hopeful smile
of nervousness
resting beneath the up-turn
of his hat
as he awaited her answer.
She did not speak,
but simply let
her eyes pierce deep into his soul
as she reached out her hand
and joined it with his
in a tightened grip as if to say
"Why yes, please ... and may the song never end."

We became shadows
in the night
and the world disappeared

Very nice. What a beautiful story you pen.
Dancing, swirling, shadows that disappear in the night... away from the eyes of the world.
Nice picture you paint.

Mark my friend, what's that line dance away the heartache dance away the pain, well if it helps I'll do that. (I think it was Roxy Music, but I'm not sure!) Wonderful as always truly wonderful.
But I think I'll wait for a dance near the end if you don't mind. Truly another one of your beauties.
Take care

the music on this is a definate GROOVY ...
I hope all have their speakers on and get to enjoy the special effect treat.

as for getting in line for a dance....
well, since I know your dance card is spoken for ... and its a never ending song ...
I'll just sit back and enjoy watching you "trip the lite fantastic."

That short walk must have felt like a thousand miles though the honky-tonk and her hand was definitely beyond a thousand words ever spoken.  Lucky to get there in time?  I think not....  I knoooow she was waiting.  Bob <><

Mark,
Let's dance shall we?
Now this is poetry!
though western is the type of dance
it smacks of ballroom, soft romance
with cowboy hat, or suit of armour
in this write you are the charmer

Gemini-Thank you much.  I am glad that you found it breathtaking.

Karilea-Thank you my friend.  I take it you liked the poem.

Kathleen-Thank you much and I will visit Miss Kitty's soon.

Karen-It is I who am blessed and lucky to have found her in my arms for our dance.  Thank you much my friend.

Deb-It was and still is more than just a nice picture SHE has painted on my heart through her friendship.  Thank you so much my dear friend.  I am glad you liked it.

Marsha-Thank you my friend.  I hope you find that dance of yours sooner than at the end of any line.

JM-Thank you my sweet friend.  Yes, the song is a never ending one at that.  So you like the Stetson do ya?  I do believe it is now officially a part of me.  I am glad that the imagery was good enough for you to see the scene happen.  That means alot to me.

Victoria-Thank you my friend.  I am happy that you liked the images.

Bob-That is the way I prefer to think of it, but some things you just don't want to leave to chance now do you?  My friend, I thank you dearly for your always kind words and inspiration.

Gale-For you to put this in your library is a great compliment and I thank you for that and for your wonderful reply.  I am glad that you enjoyed it.

Martie-Thank you my friend.  Hanging out???????????????  Whatever do you mean?    Maybe on a cloud or two but never too far away ya know. I am glad you liked my free-verse but it nowhere near the caliber of yours YET!!!

Amy-So nice to see you back.  I am very happy that you liked the poem and the extra touch of music in it.  I hear music all the time these days and I just thought I would share some of it.  Thank you much my friend.

Sandra-Thank you my friend.  Perfect romantic musings you say?  Well, that brought a smile to my face.

Kethry-Cowboy's do the ballroom dancing real good you know.  We don't just know how to two step.  That is a myth.  We love the closeness of the slow ones alot more than we let on sometimes.  Heck, who wouldn't.

A beautiful romantic trip across the room through the crowd up to the brunette...and the end well, it's the way I hoped it would be. The romance of budding love mixed with the love of the romance of life.....you paint wonderful word pictures Mark my friend...as if I didn't know that anyway but I always enjoy them immensely...have a great romantic day and I hope you're still dancing with her!

Sensually woven, vividly painted scene!  Well done! Captivating!

It's been 18 years since I've danced, save for the very awkward time I danced with my daughter at her wedding.  I would so love this second chance to dance.

Stan-Thank you much.  The ending made it in at the last minute on this one.  I am glad you liked it.

Tracie-Well thank you for that big WOW my friend.  I am happy that you enjoyed this one.

ethome-I thank you dearly for those wonderful words my friend.  I always like it when a reader can see the images I try to convey.  That is what makes it so enjoyable to write.  Don't worry, my boots are in for the long haul on this dance my friend.

James-Coming from the master of romance I am humbled and honored both.  Thank you my friend.

Agust P-Thank you much and I am glad that you liked the ending as it was her herself that first said part of it and I only reinforced it.

Beverley-Thank you kindly.  It is nice when certain dreams come true but still have the same wonderful effect on you.

Charisma-I have never known you to be late for anything my friend.  Thank you so much.

hoot_owl_rn-Thank you so much and here is to you finding the dance of your dreams every day.

Gale-Thank you my friend.  You don't need an excuse to come visit.

Virginia-18 years is far too long to go without dancing.  I hope you find that floor soon with the one that will make the world disappear with you.  Thank you so much.

And you know that I'm so pleased to find you
enraptured by her charms.
Cherish the dance, my friend, as I know you will.

The slow ones are the best ones, indeed.
May the music of your heart be played over and over again.

Beautiful, my friend.
Now drop another quarter in the jukebox, Cowboy ...
the night is yet young !

Loving that you - are loving the dance -
sharing the feelings of that second chance.

That belt-buckle glance wasn't lost on me either ! *wink*

Oh wow, oh wow... oh WOW!!!! *S* What romantic perfection! Great picture, beautiful music... you couldn't have chosen better! And words that flow on the page with a dance whose grace is unequaled. Searching eyes find searching heart... and the answer was perfect. I love this one, cowboy! DARN these Baptist feet and their klutziness! LOL
