In the space between moments

Moss tickles at her toes
Sweet-scented pine needles
Crumble beneath her feet
And dazzling wildflower sprays
Crowd anxiously
Around her twisted, gnarled limbs.

Deeply etched wrinkles
Grace her rich mahogany skin
And caterpillars cocoon
Upon her curled fingertips.

Her hair is velvety, spawn of
The deepest jade
And upon her royal head
Rests a crown of saffron light
Born from the summer sun.

A green velvet queen, she is
Created from a careful seed
And determined to hold the heavens
Within her outstretched arms.

Beautiful writing, Krista! I loved your personification of the tree. It's easy to imagine this stately and thriving forest queen! Lovely work, sweetheart

I for one love when a poem is about a part of nature and I am impressed to the point that I am putting in my library and also printing this beautiful piece to hang on my wall.  The imagery in this one was outstanding to say the least and the way you melded it all together really captured the essence of the real beauty that surrounds us all.  I applaud you for this one and bow to your superb vision.

Thank you all so much, and a special thank you to you Mark.  I am truly and deeply honored that you saw and understood the vision I was striving for.

Krista~
I believe you've given Joyce Kilmer a run for his money !

This is an absolutely lovely write of the beauty of a tree.
How stunning.

Came back to let you know that I shared this with my parents and my dad was totally amazed at it's beauty.  He too loves nature and always taught me to appreciate it and treat it with respect and he was truely taken by your poem.  I printed a copy to give to him but he doesn't know it yet.  I am framing it for him as a stocking stuffer.  Just thought you would like to know that even a man who doesn't really like poetry NOW does......or at least one for sure.

I don't have the words to tell you how beautiful this is... I can only say that by the time I reached the end, my mind was far from the office and deep in the forest breathing life... and I don't want to come back. Outstanding work!!
