In the winds of Cherokee song

The River Still Flows

Wisps of winter resting in the hollows of this night
Blanketing shivers sent in the lonely winds of loss
Dormant seeds of love sleeping just out of our sight
Seeking shelter behind the warmth of northern moss

Bark of pines eaten away in brief moments of hunger
Frozen memories illuminated in the icicles of tears
Goldfinches singing of the days when we were younger
Harmonizing to the times when we lived without fears

Tracks of wanderings imprinted all over heart's hills
Glowing shimmerings tossed behind shadows of ridge
Magnolias bleeding through the cones upon waxey sills
As this season offers a slippery path to passion's bridge

Slopes of rocky terrain hugging the banks of love's river
Clouds of grey cascading across the sky in burdened rows
Snowflakes winking merrily in the sheath of cupids quiver
Knowing all along that beneath the ice the river still flows

Mark - I like the way you spliced in the personal theme with the still life theme.  It looks easy, but it ain't.  Great effort here.

Mark my friend, this is one stunning picture you've painted here, utterly outstanding. Yet another wonderful rendering from your pen. I know that the MBOOPAS will love this, not just because they always do, but winter is closing in on us here. And until they start the new wings, we have the best view or the park and Barming woods from our office window. This is a wonderfully well written piece from you it really is and yes it goes without saying I love it.

Marvelous illustrations of a love gone stale but not dead. A love with beautiful memories still alive lying under nothing more than the frozen beauty of reflections of times when love was beautiful....all this blanketed by the whispering flows of melancholy thoughts brought on by the likeness to the change of seasons from warm to cold and the different shapes and forms of beauty these individual seasonal traits create in the mind's eye flowing up and down through the chambers of the soul....and yes "beneath the ice the river still flows."  and the spring suns will once again restore the vibrant hues of blue to the vision of the baited beholder. And love can surface clothed in royal beauty once more.

Absolutely brilliant!!  Mark

ahhhh suddenly winters not so cold anymore...
so very beautiful MC... my master of imagery
you just so very good at this.
you have painted such a shimmering clear
vision of this scene for us.
and that last line is so poetically perfect,
very cool metaphor...
so many unique poetic phrases ...

"magnolias bleeding through the cones upon waxey sills"

"sheath of cupids quiver"

"As this season offers a slippery path to passion's bridge"

excellent as always...as in all you do.

Very nice, indeed, Mark... Anyone who's seen a blizzard can relate to this one..  When I looked at this photo... My first thought was that this is how it feels to look out into a "real" storm - and this picture could be in full color or B&W... The view would be the same... Then I thought... How still... and yes... The river is indeed flowing swiftly beneath the surface... I like it...
