I tried to hold a rainbow in my hands once just for fun.
I tried to hold a comet by its tail - it can't be done.
I tried to stop the sun's evaporation of the dew.
I tried to love another but I couldn't.. She's not you.

I tried to banish storm clouds with the movement of my hand.
I tried to learn the answers to what I don't understand.
I tried to find the Golden Fleece - the Holy Grail, too...
I tried to love another but I couldn't.. She's not you.

It seems my life is filled with quests that I cannot attain
Like stopping leaves from falling or abolishment of pain..
Trying to find Nirvana where dreams really can come true...
Trying to find a woman I can love as I loved you.

So I'll keep chasing rainbows with my arms held open wide.
Perhaps I'll find a comet that will take me for a ride.
Perhaps I'll banish storm clouds - paint the sky in shades of blue
But there won't be another I will love as I loved you.

Have you ever imagined a world with no hypothetical situations?

Sir Balladeer, this one is simply beautiful: the style, message, content, scansion, rhyme scheme....this one really needs to be submitted to the main site. So...what are ya waiting for?

No matter how hard we try, we can never replace a love that's true or the memories that go with it, it seems. This is a very touching poem, Balladeer, and one that is written from a tender heart........

Absolutely beautiful Michael! Do you get tired of me telling you how wonderful you are?

Everything from the rhythm and flow ... through rhyme and sentiments. I love the positive feel you've wrapped into the end.  I too try to catch that rainbow, but why must it be so elusive at times?

Best wishes,
/Kit

WOW!!! well, i've tried to write responses to poetry and read people's hearts but it never hit me like this before...i'm glad i read this one because life is short and i identified with these lines but that's just me.. it's a really fine reflecton on it all... and i could say, in my own life "i tried", too.. and if i wrote that statement, there would be no truer words which were ever written or spoken.. you wrote it well, Michael! oh, what a Ballad-dear you are! i enjoyed this completely....truly...thank you...

it's breathtakingly beautiful, shining with immortal love and yes, I would submit it on the main site, I think this is an amazing dedication of love. The last line is a poetic seal of excellence.< !signature-->

Balladeer~
My how I love your romanticism -

You could talk the stars from the sky
with sweet enticing rhyme
Walk across the Milky Way
with phrases for all time

Though it may go without saying
I really feel I should
Tell you just how you make me feel
and that's oh, so good !

So lay these romantic notions
on my heart of want and need
Continue to write the verses
and I'll be sure to read.

*You deserve more than a *Sigh*
but ... it will just have to do.
You rock my heart, sweet poet !

Balladeer,
Tisk, tisk, didn't I tell you to stop chasing rainbows and shooting stars, you can really get burnt with them. Now this is really a long journey into nowhere. Wonderful poem.

I tried to tell you how good you are
but you were off catching shooting stars
you needn't have walked off so far
O wait...you found Toe and John there at the bar!

I can't be the only one not drooling over this, so had to add some levity!

'Deer...thanks!  I say, submit! [to the main site, that is!]

If you find that comet that will take you for a ride
(This is of course assuming that the comet's VERY wide)
Could I hitch a ride with you upon that shooting star?
I won't be a bother; I'm not going very far.
I promise I won't talk too much and I'll try not to nag...
I just need a satellite to help me find Toerag! *G*

I enjoyed this much, Deer one!

I've tried to find the words to convey my thoughts to you.
They never come so easy, they fail me at times...'tis true.
For yet again you've touched a place where rare few have ever been.
And only you can pen those words which bring a sigh, my friend.
So as I try to find the words, have patience as I do...
And never forget the times we've shared...for I'll never forget my time with you.

Lovely, Michael...as always.  Miss ya!  Take care.  Sally
