As a child he led me, along the righteous path. Look first right then take a step Get A’s in all your math Don’t talk to strangers Be kind to little brother Eat all your vegetables Listen to your mother But slowly as I grew older I began to finally see the man that I had adored, would stumble drunkenly. I found him in a doorway tattered and slovenly. I led him to my house as he had once led me. He stumbled once at the door and my child’s heart wept I grabbed his arm and cautioned, look first right then take a step. [This message has been edited by Poet deVine (edited 08-20-99).] |
