Is it just me, or does the site seriously seem to need something to reinvigorate it?

To end this mass of total confusion
We're looking for a passion transfusion
Blood of the poet, slightly read
more from the heart, less from the head.

Shall we fight the boredom
of windows browsing
pixelated eyes-a-drowsing
handling poetry like facebook posts
while muses creep away like ghosts?
Yes we will renew the flame
Passions again fulfill your name.
There's a blue-screen-of-death already
our poems becoming too heady
or too small for anyone to care
To make Passions live again we'll dare.

I think the site evolved a bit like a romantic relationship, where after time unfortunately, and almost inevitably much of the romance begins to become worn away or dormant.  Now something needs to be changed a bit, shaken up, or spiced up, to help awaken the earlier fires again.

Um. Ess? Is this our first fight? ( I know it ain't )

And I'd like to stand on record, that I was against a Pip site on Facebook.

Well. Sure. It got me back on Facebook, but it is not as cozy. Now squish over and hey--that's somebody's elbow or a "very-happy-to-see-me" signal!

When you plant in Passions garden
the results must show you there
but walk away and it fades quickly
wilting from lack of care

There's the reason (one of them) that Passions now has only about 50% of the number of members of PFFA, and nothing like the activity.  The "head" was chopped off years ago; all that's left IS "heart", and you want MORE!?

Until the Head changes his heart, nowt is gonna change hereabouts, and the only Flash of Passion will be the Deer and Denise Show in the Alley, starring Deer and Denise.

I am not much of a poet but I have always felt there is something nice to say about everyone's work.  There are several really talented poets on here who post on the fly.  I think if you have time to write you should make time to reply. And if you only write for yourself then why post in a public forum in the first place, a journal would suffice if that is truly the case.

I am not an active participant in the discussion forums, but I read and have learned a great deal by the many diverse topics and lengthy bantering that has taken place over the years.  I think there is some inconsistancy and favoritism when it comes to adhereing to "the rules" I only read what is posted in the public forums, which leaves me to wonder what goes on behind closed doors in the private forums, therefore I may only get half the story. I do not care to be a mod in order to get the scoop.  I have read posts that are flat out rude and nothing is said, only to read someone speak their mind and they are banned. In my opinion, say a newby comes to the forum, gets a feel for the people here, then comes across the flaming and/or so called personal attacks and must wonder why one guy can say this or that but the other guy can't.  For me, the rules I agreed to when I joined pip was part of the attraction, but over the years there is a mixed message and I honestly don't get it.  I've seen some of the best poets and debaters, if you will, get banned and that's just sad. So part of what makes PIP great appears to have played a part in it's demise.  (from where I'm sitting anyway)

  I'm just saying...

Blues

I thought that was a really good honest comment from someone “outside the loop”.

To be fair all of the forums and message boards I’ve ever been on have a degree partisanship, favouritism, personal attacks, and inter personal problems.  And, let’s face it, there’s nothing surprising about that because this is life, with all the same old human emotions we see in face to face interaction.

I think what’s important, and what distinguishes boards, is how such stuff is handled.  And the ethos behind the existence of the board in the first place.

To run a board where:

1 Certain standards of behaviour are expected (as here)
2 Anyone is allowed to participate
3 Some element of learning beyond mere coffee and cookies chat is incorporated

takes a phenomenal amount of effort and dedication, and cannot imo be achieved sustainably with one person having dictatorial powers in every task area.

Passions has not failed, in the sense that it is now the image of its creator’s soul – to get a little melodramatic!  It has however failed in the sense that the experiments over the years towards incorporating elements of other’s souls have all fallen by the wayside.

The underlying ethos of Passions is, and always has been, a benign dictatorship.  The tensions in the past have arisen imo from trying to pretend on the surface that it was anything other than that.

And frankly I have a lot of sympathy with this, I doubt I could do better.  In fact I’m pretty darn sure a message board run by me would end up in exactly the same state: modelled on my likes and dislikes and with a small number of likeminded people all sitting around year after year over the coffee and cookies chatting in a friendly way and becoming more and more insular and exclusive.  And as I got older and more tired, with other things to do, I don’t think I would care.

Hi There,
I've been away for a bit.

Pip is a wonderful forum, and we are really blessed for Ron to have made this space for everyone to share their muse and talents.

It seems like the core group that writes here have been the ones that give their time and invest hours moderating...there's real ownership of what is posted.  That's always good and sometimes not...can get a bit territorial or whatever.

Passions doesn't need invigorating...(I submit humbly)...we do!  Remember the challenges, and the inspiration?

Thanks to all for the wonderful experience here, and I'll be back.  We've been mourning our lost ones over the past couple of years...How amazing that bond that has been built on an internet site of blue.

It's almost Thanksgiving, how appropriate! TD

positive change is not accomodated by such things as comfort, contentment, and complacency, or familiarity, routine, and tradition. while institued regularities positively preserve peace and security, they negatively inhibit growth and change.
growth will always produce change. if there is no growth there is no change, and stagnancy and staleness are consequentially evident.

if passions will be a living and growing entity, she must understand that puberty is an unpleasant experience that must be suffered if she will ever be progentive. if she continues to rigidly adhere to contemporary forms, she will halt maturation and forfeit fruition. while childhood may be filled with novelty and wonder, adulthood that produces and perpetuates life is most valuable and satisfactory.

finally, let our beloved passions consider the nature of life and death: atrophy and decomposition are mandatory substitues for growth and change. neglected opportunities to live and thrive or blatant refusal to adapt to or strive with and overcome adversities and perplexities will warrant penalties of destruction and decay.

*moonbeam, will you please explain to me what you are referring to in this quote?

"The "head" was chopped off years ago; all that's left IS "heart", and you want MORE!?"

It's a delight to return and see that nothing has changed. I started on single page sites and rejoiced when someone(no names please)started one of those ikon boards where you could send mean and hateful correspondence through a 'Personal Message'(PM)system. When facebook got into the act, it was a veritable  stampede to the new grazing ranges, leaving little more than dust in their wake.

PIP is just fine.

If you've outgrown it, pack a bag, shake hands and fulfill your destiny.

You can always come home to visit and you'll be glad that it's the same old place when you do.

The poets I used to know and feel comfortable with are no longer here or if they are, they no longer respond. The places to post poetry around the cloud are falling to the wayside as of late due to the impact of personal attacks in the reviews and the advertising that slows the pages to a halt and often crashes the page. Even Facebook is fated to falter before long because of greed. Most people can't afford a new computer each year to keep up with the needed speed these days. I believe for this reason that sites like Passions may be the biggest survivors for serious as well as recreational writers to gather and rally like they did in 1999/2000 to get away from the terror of the open news groups.

That's not just your "too sense", Rex...that's the entire treasury.
In the upper right-hand corner, Ron placed the phrase, "A Family of Friends". Pining for old friends and "the poets you used to know speaks volumes as to the lack of participation and presence.
No one else will do...no group or individuals to feel "comfortable with", no new friends to meet either, eh? More preconceived impressions than extended hands...making new friends must be old news.
Humans are still humans though, Rex. What they don't know, they'll assume...and the assumptions are rarely good.
