(This is dedicated to our dearest friend Steve Irwin, who tragically passed away today after being pierced in the chest by a stingray while filming a documentary off the coast of Queensland. I can never write a tribute poem as beautiful as Kit McCallum's regarding how Steve himself touched and inspired all of us, so I decided instead to write a tribute of Steve's philosophy in life, as I have always found inspiration in one thing he said, saying, "I believe that education is all about being excited about something. Seeing passion and enthusiasm helps push an educational message." And this is what this poem celebrates; that Steve Irwin embodied all this warmth, passion and sensitivity in making the world a better place for all living things. God Bless You Steve, rest in peace, and I hope you enjoy this tribute! ) Capturing The Enthusiasm By: Noah Eaton 9/4/06 So it’s said put the child out of the water, before the child receives ones punishment, sometimes you learn going hook, line and sinker, floating above a bacchanalia of nature’s fingerprints, “today is tomorrow’s elder brother”, and “heavy dew is the elder brother of the rain.”, when the shoreline broadens, there’s no stopping curiosity, education should be all about excitement and willing to play. Still waters run deepest in the thrill seekers, intuition is sharpest in those who are wet behind the ears, laboring love is all about being everything, you forgot to be at nine years old, capturing the enthusiasm and letting it glow. Every crocodile that deserts the water, will wake and find itself on a spear, it’s funny how fear keeps us from making mistakes, but what saves a life is conquering that fear, there’s more to every adrenaline junkie than ones khakis, and the peppery accents that sharpen in a lifetime, global optimism frames their controlled urgency, which you can limn with briskness, like a turtle tobogganing into the warm ocean brine. Still waters run deepest in the thrill seekers, intuition is sharpest in those who are wet behind the ears, laboring love is all about being everything, you forgot to be at nine years old, capturing the enthusiasm and letting it glow. In any wanderer there’s an acute sensitivity, as gently mysterious as the abysses in the eyes of a seal, you can see how gorgeous behind the face one can be, if you could revisit ones eyes, watch that child glow surreal, maybe that’s supposed to be nature’s way, just jump into the drink and soak it in like a squid, living, working each day with that sensation of how it feels, to jump in with both feet for the first time as a kid… …crikey, imagine, living, working each day with that sensation of how it feels, to jump in with both feet for the first time as a kid… Still waters run deepest in the thrill seekers, intuition is sharpest in those who are wet behind the ears, laboring love is all about being everything, you forgot to be at nine years old, capturing the enthusiasm and letting it glow... "If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other" Mother Teresa [This message has been edited by Mistletoe Angel (09-04-2006 11:57 PM).] |

I do believe you've "captured" Steve... and then, kindly, let him go. Thank you, Noah, from my heart, to yours. |

Noah, I believe that both yours and Kit's poems (in her reply to your Announcement post) would be truly appreciated by Steve's family. Perhaps you and Kit could find a way of sending your phenomenal tribute poems to them. You have done a masterful job of capturing the man who captured our hearts and respect. Thank you so much for helping to immortalize a man who was more than a mere mortal! Love & Eternal Light, Linda |
