A lantern in the Old Church Tower, she is While he is a sea faring rider Who waits for faintest flicker of flame Wicking from stranger’s eyes. Will he ride the town tonight, Or will he show in himself surprise When clasped together he sees her hands On the handle of spread lace fan? His eyes anchor deeply while she twirls brown hair Then, as received by her, purely a dead man’s stare; Closes lids and lowers chin, All the hope within. Her shoulders need no language Non-verbals good for him. The fan rests now upon her heart For it was she who left without a start When asked their lives to never part. She knew he was not ready. Lands have been traveled, sands have passed; Tears gone through the hour glass. Eyes are fenced 'hind opened fan, Opening to “I love you.” ~ ~ ~ miscellanea (For various reasons, I have been doing light research on the history of hand fans. I found the language of the fan interesting, and thought readers might, too. open fan held by hands clasped together- "Forgive me" fan resting over heart - "My love for you is breaking my heart" hiding eyes behind open fan- "I love you." Misc'.... leave it to you...to leave us hoping for more. Has it been a year and more? Yes.... and it was only yesterday...that your hands fanned life and merriment before my eyes. Well done, m'dear. |

A poem and some imformation, reminds me of those ladies in church of my youth fanning as the minister spoke on and on during the hot summer days. |

Sunshine, Oh, you tease! I have no more on this one that fits the mood, but I did play around with a much different one but didn't finish. Her man of the sea has returned home with several large lines, and not the type weighed down by fish. However, those lines MAY be a little fishy: “Where have you been my lovely maiden while over the world I traveled? You’ve been the mist upon my breath Tell me, what stories have you to unravel?” A gurgle of laughter and smidgeon of smile Her fan now upon her lips “I don’t trust you, understand,” As she began to relax her hips. “Where have you been my lovely maiden When waves were cast over hull? You’ve been the dream that kept me dry The angel I kept on call.” ~~~~~~~ Maybe I'll finish it someday. Who knows? As to the year, it is hard to believe! I still remember the bright colors of the event and the magic of meeting an unknown friend! It has been so good to hear from you! hugs, misc' |

The Lady, You are too kind and funny. More, more? I'll mess up if I write more! I did write one partially that I posted in response to Sunshine. Hope you enjoy what there is of it. Like I said it isn't finished... It's good to be here again. It seems I have little time for myself anymore. It feels good to steal away some time now. By the way, I have enjoyed your charcoal man series! misc |

wwshanner, I remember church fans, too. A little girl, about nine years old, sat in church with her father fanning herself slowly when along came a wasp. You can imagine. Those were hot, slow days... After reading about the various meanings in the language of the fan, I doubt that all the ladies at church who held fans were trained in the language! If they were... YIKES! ] Thank you for reading and taking the time to respond. miscellanea |

Enjoyed this fan story greatly, dear Misc! ... and I confess I did not know of these meanings. All summer it was my husband fanning himself with my fans, gifts of friends who went to Spain mostly ... what might THIS mean? ... it was hot and in the coziness of home it can be done, I guess! Love and hugs. I have the same feeling as you, it seems I don't have enough time for myself anymore ... and I miss Pip too! Just peeked in today. Margherita |

Miss C., this is so interesting! I didn't know all that. Now what does it mean when you have a giant fan as a wall piece...remember?....lol......love ya....jo (PS....sending this to the Abb 'cause she may play Carmen someday and I think one of the props is a fan; perhaps, it will help her know how to really work it!) |

Margherita, Sooo good to hear from you! Hm...Quickly fanning could mean, "I love you." Half-opening the fan could mean you and he "were being watched" (maybe by that grandchild of yours! Age two now?" I'm sure glad you popped in. Perhaps we'll meet at your post next time, eh? miscellanea |
