an unforgettable place

grey silken threads
dwarf the face that is
resting there
slowly turning into soul dust
jumping into shadowy river
seams full blossoms
murmurings of change
how infinitely caressing
like siren songs
from
some aloof
coaxing amethyst plume
lacing sentient nucleus
into
kaleidoscope blaze

majestic sounds
prismatic colors
dropping wild iridescence
like curios
their essence in sync
with
prophetic stares
burning brightly
wildly
within
the almighty
pulsing impression
of supremacy
sea of the Bahamas
whispering
come to Eleuthera
to our seaward isle

I lay motionless
inexplicable eagerness
flashes
into
blinding
azure lights
I am a tropical depth
fair-haired & alive
meeting turquoise mists
standing in a great sea orb

purest white flames
formulated
uniformly
throwing myself
at the foot
of existence
oddly assuming
wavelengths
of
familiar voice
is there
any other spectrum
equivalent?

life smiles
on me as if
crawling paint
across a canvas
making reparation
from pain
seemingly
purpose full
intermingling
with those
haunting places

vanished debris

where a tempest
meets a handmaiden
purity of clear
golden eyes reveals
transfiguring this
razor face of strength
borne of a time
much further on
where immense virtue
conquers all bad song

and the child
lives forever
inside mother earth
filled
with gratitude
with love
for tropical life
holding high
but shy courage

I speak of this
with craving
shall I articulate
a floating from sight
into dreams of dawn?

wriggle up
to the top
of any volcanic barrier
discovering where I was?

now I know
it was those who
came before me
whispering
of magenta discovery
finding silver dollars

I am driftwood
floundering in towards
shore...weariness
a bit of disappointment
the echoes fall
mouth froths
eyes turned
to pink sands

...and I hear
the creak of
an old wooden schooner
unleashing creation
for a while

I’d have taken
the slightest
piece of coal...
filled with
threats of forces

all to oft
feared
with homesick mind
just for the moment
one moment
with sea

where
had
the
moon
entrance
gone?

had the sand run out?
who stole my candle
in those
unmentionable times?

it was the wagon
of my faith
that stuttered
it’s wheel
until evil
smiled
upon rivers & rock

whispering to us
“there are great things here on earth”
showing a breath
laden with mysterious spell
and all is well...

but i say
great things are the unseen
for us permitted
to partake
& our like selves frighten us
as much as love
but we wake, a litte every day

oh if only for the child
shadows would not dance on walls
like a haunting evil more frightening
for the human mind to probe

I say, man speaks of monuments
and intellectual keeness
yet today, we break
one more law
rape the soul

for we sway
in the wind
like willows
in a rare location
where our world
extends into other homes
we are so smug
turning against
ourselves
questioning
the brain of tomorrow

and within me
was strength to digest
the swells
to swirl for an instant
then
disappear...
into the azure blue mists
of Bahamian luminescence
where light quivers and shakes
as a ship races
southward with hands
of faith

can you imagine yourself in this
tropical world
unfamiliar
yet
abrupt resolution
like an old friend?

pause, for a moment
feel the bittersweet
ocean
from whence we come
and where eventually
we all will meet
again

cleave to waves
radiant as if a prayer
do not be bothered
by darkness or care
breath in
silver azure fires
of some sweet
archipelago glow
a cluster of
volcanic rock
where white stars
flame the marrow
of insistent dawn
red skies
& seaward winds
of Eleuthera
the island chagrin
bewitched
oh yes
I am bewitched
by a place
where my heart lives
and will hopefully
die
and I yearn for
Eleuthera
         oh Eleuthera

The Bahamas are among my favorite places in the world yet I had never heard of Eleuthera before.  Thanx for this
We should plan to all meet there next year!

Poet, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write.

Well, you have a beautiful talent.  Your writing is an absolute blessing to anyone who will take the time to explore within your words.  This was another marvelous write from you and a breathtaking presentation.  I absolutely love this Lee J.

Lee, thank you for sweeping me off to elusive Eleuthera. It was a magical ride!
As a poet and as a woman, you keep on getting better and better!

I also enjoyed the photos and the accompanying music! It was a much-needed meditative respite for me.

Fabulous!!!
I agree with Interloper..
we should all meet there next year!

In the midst of winter,
I found there lives within me..
An invincible summer.

LeeJ
I've been to Eleuthera and as I remember it
a small island with a beautiful scenic view.
But the one you speak of is more like
Shangri-la. Enjoyed the images and pictures.

It's seven years to retirement....
or maybe less....

now that you've given me
this desire.
