Stands Alone! Stands Alone greets the dawning soft and low his morning prayers, strong the words of his asking seeking life for his kind. From the first he did not trust them he whose name was once different, too many smiles, too many gifts, too many questions he told the Elders. No way now to make things different,no way to turn back time, the children lie wrapped in gifted blankets dead or dying from the sickness. Traders came into the village bringing magic and mirrors, seeking to trade for the skins they so covet, beaver, otter, mink, and ermine. Now the fields of selu lay dying no one to tend them no reason for eating, healers and Elders gather begging to Creator for His help. Yesterday they came again the yellow hairs from the east, laughing, talking, trying again to trade for the lands we live on wanting to build their trading post. Stands Alone begged for battle let me fight for what is right, let me send them away or put them in a hole in Mother Earth they deserve no better. Once again the Elders stopped him we do not know they brought this hurt, perhaps their children too are dying and they need our love and blessings. Peace is what we seek first of land there is plenty there is no need for killing, they could not in their hearts believe someone would kill a child for a piece of land. The traders did not know Stands Alone could speak english, that he had heard them laughing at the Elders, saying what weak men to follow women. Our prayers they made fun of,the blessings and smoke were wasted, tobacco was to them for trading never understanding it was sacred. Corn to them was for eating, pollen so much dust, the smoke offered to the Seven Directions they call witchcraft. Even with the telling they never once understood,it is Great Spirit that we honor and all He has created. Stands Alone greets the dawning soft and low his morning prayers, this time no one will stop him, this time the Elders know, for Stands Alone it is a good day to die his only child is gone!

These are used to teach the children, they are truth of the so misunderstanding of the ways each peoples saw things. The story is truth, handed down from the grandmothers, language a barrier we could no cross over! my heart to yours,my thanks for your caring!

Sigi PassingShadows they are in truth hard things,to read,to know, but in truth they must be shared for there to be true healing and understanding between the Peoples. Our Mother Earth needs this from us all,so that we may live and learn together in the loving peace Creator meant us all to share! blessings
