Doughnuts They only come in one shape Flat oozing flaps of batter Squeezed, rolled and shaped to Perfection now pushed around In boiling oil always constant Their only friend the hole. To be relied on, to always be there Holding boiling dough together From the spitting pot, down the tube Into the sugar, rolled in cinnamon Their freedom the freedom of the slide Even that’s planned. Confinement in a paper bag Rabbit ear twists, Better too be on the top ? Or sopping up the oily juices and crusty Crystals at the bottom. Most Favoured, most flavoured last one. No discrimination, special treat To the first customer on The street, paying small pittance For the doughnut delight. Destruction, First bite of the golden halo, Malformed, transferred to Chin dripping oil and cinnamon sugar lips Perfect friend hole no more. |
