Whispering on the street corners. Whispering on the sidewalks. Whispering in the parks. Throw that food wrapper down. Toss that straw. Fling that paper bag. Pass on the pigsty habits! Rejoice over the lovely paper strewn streets! Clap when gum is stepped on. To cling to the bottom of a shoe! Do a jig when an empty bottle of motor oil is seen in the gutter! Pass the command to litter. Pass it to everyone. Smile over the never-ending cycle. Litter until it reaches the sky. Litter until we all suffocate in the mess. Litter until the whole earth is covered. Litter until the grass, trees, rivers, lakes, ponds, mountains, buildings, and our homes can never be seen anymore. Those of you that litter must love to wallow in garbage. If you insist on spreading it around for the rest of us to see. If those of you that litter laugh at the people that hate littering. Then pass a law stating that it is forbidden to hate littering. Have us put into jail. If you believe it is a crime to hate littering. Then tell the government to chase us out of the country. Then you can litter to your heart’s desire. Because no one will be there to protest. |

If those of you that litter laugh at the people that hate littering. The balance of Mother Earth depends upon those like you my friend, who point out what we do to her all suffer for,the Earth does not belong to us but is borrowed from our grandchildren. Is this litter, trash, poisoned air, water and land the gift you wish for them? And so,well said poet, well said!

I like the beginning stanza of this one especially, it grabbed my attention and led me into the rest of the poem. Nan (Pilgrim variety) |
