The Christmas Angel....

A little girl all dressed in white
Appears from the corner into my sight
Her mum is dead, her dad at war, he sends letters by mail
She has no home to go too and her bones are frail

It’s Christmas Eve and not a person standing near
A community singing carols, while this little girl still shakes in fear
Please help me she cries, but nobody listens
Her voice is soft and her eyes no longer glisten
Her brown hair hasn’t been washed in weeks
She still smiles because this Christmas love is all she seeks

I take her hand and we walk home
Excuse me she says “I’d Like To Use The Phone”
I was hesitant for a moment as that child of seven had me completely seduced
What she heard on the phone made her eyes fill with tears, her life expectancy suddenly reduced

I held her for a while as I watched the tears stream from her face
She rocked backwards and forwards with the utmost grace
With fear in her voice she spoke “I want one thing for Christmas, I want daddy back”
I could no longer hold in the tears, this is all she wanted from Santa’s sack
That little girl cried herself to sleep; I tucked her into bed and turned out the light
I prayed that the Christmas angel had heard her wish and been in sight

The morning came it was Christmas day
That little girl looked at me not knowing what to say
The tree was lit up and the decorations glowing
Presents were underneath the tree, but that sadness was still flowing

All of a sudden there was a knock at the door
A man appeared and his knees hit the floor
This little girl ran towards the man wearing an army vest
He lifted her up and held her against his chest
The little girl was so excited she showed her daddy all her toys her favourite was the ball
He cried and cried, and I cried too, that Christmas angel had heard our call

This Christmas as you sing your carols and place your star upon your tree
A Christmas angel will be watching and listening for your plea
Miracles can happen in sunshine, snow or hail
So this Christmas remember the little girl and how her Christmas didn’t fail!

Merry Christmas Everyone
