          Fossilized

Yes, I don’t laugh so much
   anymore
for I’ve grown ‘old’ perhaps,
and tired of the ‘game’
though  even 50 years
may seem far too soon to
   face
the ‘truth’ about myself
and our niche in time:

ah, this ‘modern’ world
   of ours
with all its ‘necessary
   niceties’
and oh so properly placed
    priorities
that often make me ill!...
“but we’ve replace
   'superstitious ignorance'
with ‘scientific awareness’,”
you so incessantly chant!

How nice!....

We’ve blown our own horns
so loud that those antiseptic
saints began to fall,
to be replaced of course
by ‘real people’ like you
   and I.
Some exchange...
Now, we worship fools
   and madmen!

Perhaps we’ve just caught
a few too many dreams too
   soon
for preservation’s sake
and stuck them all in
   bioplastic
where they no longer move...
   nor move us!
“But now they always look
just right,” you say
like our own ‘plastic’ smiles,
perfectly pretty...and
   perfectly meaningless....

How NICE !

How can you be so jaded and living in PA...unless, of course, you live in Philly

Poet, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write.
