May the spirit of good cheer
follow you around the room
and remind you why you entered
for ribbons,
paper,
a card for a neighbor,
scotch, tape, or scissors

May joy surround you
with a ticklin' sensation
so laughable
it spreads
even if your tree falls over
on the cat,
or if your toddler gets up
in the middle of the night,
tonight
and opens all the gifts,
and dresses the dog
in that pretty negligee
meant for your wife

May you find peace
in the bathroom
where you hide
for a moment of quiet
from the extra kids,
extended family,
the mother-n-law,
father-n-law
and their little critters, too

May you make nice
when shopping
for that last present,
and you find it
in the hands of another
who snatched it from yours,
or if your Mom's holiday bird
looks like it flew
through a forest fire
before it made it to the table

May you check behind
your SUV or mini-van
before backing out
of your driveway,
in case someone left
all the gifts
stacked up on the concrete
and forgot to tell you

May everyone be somewhere,
home for Christmas
Safe, healthy, and blessed
with a mess of love and happiness
called togetherness

Your title had me thinking but now I understand the "mess" part of it.  Here's hoping that none of the mishaps happen to you - or me!  Happy Holidays!

RDB: Love and joy from me to you and yours. Happy Christmas, darlin'.

Nancy: Thank you, lovely. Smiles are a perfect gift. Warmest holiday huggins all around.

HoneyBunches: No worries. I made it through all of it. Yep. I'm a Christmas Story gone awry. Makes for memorable holidays. Happiest holidays ever to you and yours.

Big peace of Love,
Reg

It's been a while! You certainly appear to have your thumb on the pulse of the season! Your poem was touching, humorous, with a strong dose of reality which brought a smile to my lips ~ and heart!

May your Christmas be merry and your New Year be a joyous one!

I got a good laugh because my daughter, "while taking my eyes off her" started tearing bows off the presents for a 9 month old who could get mad at that! You nailed the crazy side of Christmas. Kudos!
