In The Arms of a Stranger She woke up and put on navy slacks and cotton blouse, Make-up intact, she left to work in the mailroom. He checked his watch and fiddled with the radio, rushing to find parking close to his 90th floor office. She gossiped as she put the sorted mail in her cart. He frowned as he impatiently tapped his fingers while waiting for coffee. Both anticipated the busy day that lay before them. She took the elevator to her assigned floor and rolled her cart down the corridor, delivering letters and parcels. He rushed by her in the hall, moving rapidly to the conference room not seeing her good morning smile. Meetings and mail were paramount on their minds. Neither knew the other. She worried about high rent and day care. He worried about high taxes and settlements. When they felt their world rock those petty concerns flew from their minds, replaced by fear. He smelled smoke and moved towards an exit. She felt the heat of the flames and grabbed his hand. Together they sought the door that led to survival, but instead, found the acceptance of death. He held her in his arms. She clung to him tightly. They embraced in a partnership of resignation. Alison 9/11/01 |

Alison, this is a beautiful tribute. The day is bittersweet for me, as it is my daughters birthday, too. I tell her she is the bright spot is what would be only a grievous memory. |

God... It's an amazingly written poem, but undeniably sad and melancholic, but I think its beautifuly written. |

aziza, I think that your few words brought all of us closer together, tells a story of our everyday, being too busy and not taking time out to smell the roses. Today, tomorrow, either might be our last, none of us know for sure. Today I will take a little more time out, listen and just enjoy the world out there a little more. And all this from your heart felt words. Thank you for sharing my friend, much appreciated. Sincerely Rick |
