Half Her Strength I sit and watch her sleeping, know it’s time that she should wake. Can’t bring myself to do it o’er the dreams I might forsake. An angel lay before me in the guise of my own wife. Dare I disturb the rest she needs bringing rest to my life. Just how or why she came to me I’ll never understand. Not a damn thing to offer her except my heart and hand. The moment frozen in my head to examine at length, I know I could change the world if I had but half her strength. But alas, a mortal man, and weak in my endeavor, The best that I will ever do is to love her forever. Though in my mind I hold one thought, if selfish in decree, The outside world might need her… but never as much as me. So careful not to unsettle the aura of her sleep, And vowing that today her dreams will be her own to keep… I brush back her hair; kiss her cheek, and pray God might concur If for one day, to let me be the strength that carries her. I read this the other night (or was it yesterday--sheesh) but I was so overcome with envy, for both your writing ability and the obvious love you two share. You make me believe in happy endings... (Linda--how does it feel to be cherished?) sigh, pout, and sniffles absolutely beautiful! Have a joyous holiday you two. You've got the real deal, the rest is all gravy now. |

I am approaching the last page of reading your poems Michael, and it has been a wonderful experience to read your work. This in particular actually softened my thinking into believing that "happy" is out there somewhere. I actually was mentioning you to Ron and how much I miss reading your work so thank goodness for these archives. Best to you all. |
