Insignificance

I'm not angry at you, no.
I really do understand,
you've got the whole world in your hand
and I'm but a tiny grain of sand.

I know that you are tired,
running so hard against the time
that you completely run out of it,
leaving me turning on a dime.

Return the favor of understanding
that I am tired too,
tired of being so very small,
so insignificant to you.

Hold the world still a moment
and let me drop off into space,
you don't need me for balance
when I'm a memory of another place...

another place and time,
a time that's all but gone.
Stop the world, I want to get off
so that I may continue on.

A poem begins with a lump in the throat.
