today is
Her Royal Highness Little Queen Mary’s
second birthday

the day she came to us
we stood at the bed
finger to lips
one of the children whispered
shhh
quiet
don’t scare the little baby

of a sudden she appeared
head up
eyes wide
sunshine baby

her big sister
infant herself
announced
well
we have a tiny fresh little baby here
a girl
her name is Miss Lucy

we laughed
passed kisses
passed tears
marveled at Miss Lucy

in the fullness of time
Miss Lucy was named Mary
now
in her second year
a green gown
she sits before strawberry cake
silver spoon in hand
rules her kingdom
with a soft fist
commanding voice
and says

my name is Rita

oh
what’s in a name?

What a precious little cutie pie!  The question...what's in a name is, I think, really an important one...I'm a firm believer, we grow into our names.  Enjoyed this, Lady!   ...jo

Kate, this is lovely!  Children are a wonderful gift!  I count myself amongst one of the lucky ones but it seems that grandchildren are a long, long, way off for me.

Some babies lean into
their naming...

and some are just crowned.
