Just in case I'm not around,
I left the spare key upon the chain
behind the door.
I filed the papers in the little box,
The one that our son's first shoes came in,
And how we laughed as he walked
as if we'd placed him in concrete boots.

I've cleaned out the rabbit hutch,
Even though they promised that would
never be my task.
But how can pets compete with girls,
Dressed in clothes that raise my brows?
Despite the sepia prints that show
that I was once like them.

I've left my memories in the pages of a book,
You'll find it in the cupboard
Beside my bed.
A scripted past that began when
you borrowed my pen in class that day.
A journey, my journey..my fingers
laced with yours as we faced each day.
Paid the bills and watched the children grow.

October the 12th. The day the writing fades,
The day they sat me down and gave
me my time in a bottle.
My sentence upon a prescription
That would do nothing more than
ease the moments when I longed for release.
Prolong the goodbyes,
That I could never bring my lips to speak.

Just in case the last, solitary bell tolls,
I want these words of poetic graffiti
to be my epitaph.
To stand as proof that I was here.
That once I was counted
amongst the living.
That once I had dreams, that I loved and lost.
And that at the end I held my life in a single breath,
And your face in my heart.

BRAVA!

Poet, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write.

I don't believe any of us will be forgotten by our loved ones, as we have imprinted their lives

hugging you tightly....
