   'every-man' sorrows

evening creeps
along swollen streets
of stagnant air
sleeping in doorways
and shadows burning briefly
beyond the sunset's purpose
as one recalls the twisting
  knife of 'fate'
in life's finest outrage
of 'friendships' lost
and loves found....
far too late!
