Wait…invades my privacy
always on the edge
what have I been doing lately
within these years of 10
surprise obviously, all gone
my form of fashion
listening to the refrigerator
turning on and off, off and on
despite character break-ins
a shriek of silent feet rob me of
stacks of correspondence
taking their position
in a dead bolt stance
voices dash up the stairs
and down the hall screaming
“come home, come home”
clandestine nights, weather winter
have I turned cold?
covering me with perspective
from a hundred years ago
finally
I find the courage to shout out loud
“just what is my role in this community”
have I literally thrown away a life story
that could have been a best seller?
well, at least on the shelves of
Barnes and Noble?

ahhhh these autumn years seem
like freshly brewed dark coffee
keeping me awake, even though
I struggle to sleep
curiosity eventually neuters
an independent streak

now I know why older folks can’t sleep
while wondering around that question
Have I Done Enough?

Self exploration can sometimes be
dirty words....

"have I literally thrown away a life story
that could have been a best seller?"

I love it all and love the above most of all

LeeJ....Some times self exploration is forced upon us...it may not feel so good but I think in the end it changes the way we appear.  Deep poem, my friend...truth in words.

M'Dear, I hope that when you look inside, that you see the beauty that others see!

Your ability to look within and without enables you to be the wonderful writer ~ and woman! ~ that you are.

Sending you a big, healing, hug-o-love,
Linda

Don’t we all suffer this examination of self worth?
Some do it with pity on their mind.  Some with a closet filled with repentance.
Others look to the sunrise with hope, the knowing that life continues, and will forever.
Heaven and the universe are next to be explored.  Melancholy.  Take away the l a n c, and you are what is left over.  Melancholy will fade away; suffering, death, tears, testing, and strife will all be past, and someday forgotten forever.
“To Much Time for Contemplation” I know that story you speak of.
Wonderful write Lee J.  Enjoyed.

too much contemplation?  just right for me and maybe Barnes and Noble, too!

I haven't been here much lately, but at the few times I've been here, I've missed your name, and wondered if you were still writing. It is a pleasure to find that you are in full force!  I liked your poem A LOT!

LeeJ - once again you so masterfully speak for so many of us but I guess we just need to remember that we did the best we could with what we had at the time.  When the "who we are now" looks back it is perhaps to know that we could have done and been so much more ... if only.

I too have missed your words although I myself haven't been around much lately.  Wonderful write, LeeJ!  Thank you!

I am only 27, but I know even if I was 77 that I would reflect back, and ponder about more things that I could have done; or the things that I would have done differently. You did a great job on captureing your thoughts. I liked this write. Thank you for the read.

We are all often too harsh on ourselves. We don't see ourselves as others see us. We should look deeper into their thoughts and might find ourselves to be surprised.. How do we know whose life we may have helped, or caused to change?  love ya, martyjo
