2220 Man Betrayed Man 11 September 2002 In faith a mountain does move in man what was built could be destroyed To be there one day and the next like Babel deployed Just no more just unseen as if never there Was it in Manhattan the World Trade Center was where Ashes and dust people and furnisher now lewd Flames fuelled with hatred masked in aviation fluid An end and the beginning in terror to be frayed Here in an earthly heaven the truth of man betrayed “dedicated to those lives lost on 11 September 2001” A death toll of 2801 lives, including fire-fighters, and police, men and woman all going about their hour of work until the world stood still. When at 8.46 am in New York City, in the United States of America a hijacked Boeing 767, with passengers on board was deliberately crashed into one of the twin towers making up the World Trade Center [One of the world’s tallest buildings]. Minutes later at 9.03 am another aircraft was directed into the second of the tall landmark towers of the 110-story World Trade Center. To later, as a result of this act of Terrorism, crumble to dust and stand no more. If faith was of belief, this was the moment to believe what could never be undone. © 2006 Christopher W Herbert (a New Zealand Poet) a poet who cares |
