My Lady Fair
(For Sonne)

A sensitive girl, and full of life.
A Soul that thrives on soft-spoken rhymes,
This girl would take you as so much more,
If you both could hear the same bells’ chimes.
But distance can kill, and bring to strife
Any relationship born anew.
When sorrows then break upon love’s shores,
And hugs and kisses become so few.

Who will answer this sensitive Soul?
Can anyone turn pain back to smiles?
Will a new love become the sweetness
To ease the aches from love’s mad trials?
Would just my love again make her whole?
Answer these questions; I need to know
Before my own pain nears completeness,
And hides from my heart love’s brightest glow.

sONne, my friend, please lend me your ear.
I wish to entreat and plead my case.
How will I live without your sweet love?
How will I laugh without your sweet face?
Winter draws close, and darkness is near,
As bravely I go from day to day.
So now I beseech the stars above,
“Open her heart and hold her in sway!”

“And, Moon, do your part to sway her heart!
Just this, and nothing more do I ask!”
Heavens above will wake to my need,
And night will tend this challenging task.
“What must I do?  And where do I start?”
The moon and stars will answer in rhyme.
But how many years can my heart bleed,
Before the answers are etched in time?

Travel I must, these forsaken years,
Until I will win my lady fair.
Brambles and boulders obscure my path,
Yet on I go with never a care.
At the end of this trail of tears,
Awaits the girl who captured my Soul.
Thus, years of enduring Nature’s wrath
Will not be seen as too high a toll.

I prefer to be a dreamer among the humblest, with visions to be realized, than lord among those without dreams and desires. -Khalil Gibran

Very beautiful John and I have no doubt that Sonne will always send her light to you even at distance. How could she not with that name?

Love,
Margherita

Hi, Margherita

What a beautiful thought!  She is a sweet girl who pulled my "bacon out of the fire," so to speak.  In gratitude, I wrote this for her.

Love, John
