Jerky Turkey Way down there in Texas, near the town of Farmer’s Branch Lived a poor ole simple farmer who had a turkey ranch Now the funny thing about it is the fellow couldn’t see But he could run that turkey ranch as good as you or me Now everyone should know the turkey is a clever bird And just before Thanksgiving they would gather for a word Each year they tried to figure out a way if they were able To keep themselves from winding up upon the dinner table Harold was their leader and devised a fool proof plan To keep each one of them out of the farmer’s cooking pan They all would act like cattle to avoid that awful fate Harold was quite sure they wouldn’t wind up on a plate The day before Thanksgiving all the turkeys young and old Gathered all together and they mooed like they were told The farmer as he always did went out into the pen With axe in hand he planned to bring his turkey dinner in The mooing of the turkeys had the farmer in a daze And Harold smiled to himself proud of his wily ways He strolled up to the farmer mooing like a big smart aleck The farmer quickly swung around and grabbed him by the neck The turkeys all did scatter running madly all about As the farmer took his prisoner and happily walked out And what happened to old Harold? He cooked up very well The thing he hadn’t counted on was the farmer’s sense of smell |
