My hero gauged his valor by my fear,
measured in the increments of tears
that flecked the tramlines of my cheek
as blood flecked his.

The jester saw my pain and mirrored mirth;
wrought smiles from daggers through my heart
in mockery of scars and ills
he laughed them off.

Death seeking sadness laid his claim
my hero and the jester fell
which left me lost and silent save my tears
and fatherless.
