Long strides past a wandering heart On a path worn shallow by a poems feet Stands an island with a rocky heart. Bruised by the butterflies of chance But never tired nor scared of leaping Where angels laid no foot or thought. A brave man, in my youth I see him Twirling principles; believing All the lies and consequences; Wielding hope against deceiving Unaware that life would leave Cold scars upon his tender skin. He never saw the seconds passing All his thrown kisses into dust; He never knew that age would beckon Nerves of steel to fear and rust; That sorrow lines the lanes of whether And lovers burn beneath mistrust. I see the mistakes and the stumbles The wrong turns made along the way, I know the final destination The how and why of every day But I can't ease the young mans worries Or wave the pain to come away. |
