Autumn Awoke Darkly Autumn awoke darkly from its misty bed when swelling in your heart, blood turns a cycle of blue, purple and red Me, I'm shivering, stuck within her store bought style bathed in the light of her million watt smile like a dear caught in headlights like this frozen world feels tonight Oh everybody's in love with being in love and everybody's love is in need of love and everybody's heart is opening to the world on display for every lonely boy and aching girl This morning I watched as the rain fell like a magic spell the turning leaves lit the skyline aflame this feeling I'll never feel the same and when the night comes the stars appear every one a lamp light over lovers holding near makes me feel like I can conquer it all if I just could trace her last phone call Oh and everybody's in love with everybody yeah everybody's love is in need of somebody somebody to make it all feel less like purgatory and to be forever happy like some children's story But sometimes it's all lies to me sometimes it seems like naivete the days when I'm stranded on my island the nights when I plot destruction on every stupid, content jerk boyfriend but then...other times, I... I arise darkly, no mood for the sun a lonely kick in my heart, slowing down the blood when I run into the vast open fields of autumn searching for her store bought style like a ship lost, looking for starlight like this frigid sky feels tonight And oh how I'm shivering... Autumn arose darkly, fireflies stop sparking and I've christianed myself 'soul drifter' a-looking for her grace in the ether nowhere to run baby you've got nowhere to hide tonight "Hey, it's me, I'm dynamite and I don't know why" -- Van Morrison, 'Sweet Thing' |
