The Barnyard Gobbler ~ Linda L. Dowd ~ I’m a proud barnyard gobbler, And I strut about all day. Fanning my tail feathers, As I dance on straw and hay. A wattle hangs beneath my beak, I have two big meaty thighs, Folks don’t think I’m pretty, ‘Cause I’ve small, red beady eyes. I’m a bird of fine distinction, Tho’ I cannot fly that well. I’m bigger than a bread box, Yet I fear that dinner bell. It’s ringing means a feathered friend, Will grace the farmer’s platter. We turkeys make like chickens, And around the yard, we scatter. The rooster crows the saddest taps, When one of us has fallen. Thanksgiving is for giving thanks, But for gobblers, it’s for bawlin’. So when you see a turkey, All stuffed with savory dressing Please show a moment of respect, And say a little blessing. “Happiness is a state of mind. Think happy! ~ Be happy!” ~ Linda L. Dowd |

My son Tim..(16) was fortunate to get to go turkey hunting this past March or April. He brought home a turkey that weighed just shy of 18 pounds, had nice spurs and beard to go with it....a big bird, and you are right, they don't fly well...especially when they are startled and take off like B-52 bombers, crashing through trees.... |

You are too cute, my little Linda Lou! I sure liked this one a bunch. You see, "turkey" is a name of great sentiment in our family...there's Big Turkey (that's my mom) and Little Turkey (that's my daughter) and when the daughter was little, she and my mom would get on the telephone long distance and gobble at each other...no kidding. Ever since that the nicknames stuck. Of course, I like the real turkey, too...and I will be saying prayers of thanks for all three on Thanksgiving. KBHBLY.....lily jo |

One thinks and thinks and then still gives thanks in a most barbaric way and I'm as guilty as the next one. I don't know ... something's wrong somewhere but I did enjoy your words, Linda. |

Good morning, Mr. T. ~ I have compassion for all living things. I had to convince myself as a child that meat grew on trees! The thought of eating any animal was repugnant to me. Mind you, having O+ blood suggests that I should eat meat so every once in a while, I'll go into my heavenly garden and pluck a little steak off my beef tree! lol Loveya, T-Man EA |

Lady Kate ~ Perhaps you could be of the mindset that I am! ~ Turkey drumsticks grow on trees! Than it is as if you are eating a meaty fruit from and orchard! lol Loves 'n hugs, Linda |

Magnus ~ Do you enjoy eating the spurs and the beard? lol My Dad was a hunter and I had to witness the carnage and then I was forced to eat the kill. My knees still go weak when I recall those times. I eventually refused to play a part in the killings (like spotting the prey) and that's when I had to convince myself that deer, partridges, fish etc. grew on trees so that I could eat them as I was made to. To each his own. Becoming a hunter is a right of passage for some young men. Sounds as though your Tim is quite a man! ~ Just like his father. Linda |

MAV ~ Oh, I do so have a guilt trip whenever I eat meat, fish or fowl. The vegetarian diet doesn't provide all the nutrients my body needs. Small amounts of meat give me the stength I need. So I'm a guilty eat-meater. lol Turkey is delicious! Expecially the ones that grow on trees! lol Loving hug 'n a smile, EA |

Martie ~ A plate of turkey sure as dickens beats the stuffing out of a plate of tofu! ~ Mind you, I practically live on soy products. The turkey gave his life for our feast of thanks and all I'm suggesting is that we bless him before we gobble him all up! Love & Thankfulness, Linda |

Sewashen ~ I hope that you will still be able to enjoy your roasted turkey dinner! At least make it worth the turkey's while! He'll have given his life up for you, so the least you could do is to eat his neck and his legs! lol Sorry, I'm getting a bit silly. I had a very late night last night out turkey shooting! NOT ! Just jestin' with you my new friend! Loves 'n hugs, Linda |

(sigh) This made me both smile for the wonderful pictures you paint and sad for the poor turkey too, as though I became vegetarian a few years ago, it certainly wasn't because I believe eating meat is cruel, as I believe everyone has the right to do so and it isn't cruel, but because so many plants weren't respecting the animals and were brutalizing them and caging them wrongfully! (sad sigh) However, if this turkey was made for food the right way, then I am happy overall, yay, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Linda, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton "If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other" Mother Teresa |

Noah Angel ~ Greetings, my vegetarian friend! I've tried to be one, but I always fail at it. My body feels as though it is lacking something and my energy takes a dive. Mind you, the mainstay of my diet is that of fruits, dairy, grains, legumes, and vegetables ~ but my body needs its meat. Not copious amounts of it, just a bit every now and then. I must add that I am certainly glad to be at the top of the food chain! Loveyalots, Linda |
