A fantastic poetic journey - and one I too was on with our Nan, and will never, ever forget. We too became "broads" and sure didn't need a map. I have to tell you in all my travels Boston is still my favorite place, especially the Square, and Fenway Park (what fans!) ![]() |

There is nothing more I can add. It has all been said, and said to perfection. I add merely the words: "you rock" Sandra |

Lady I don't know how this poem got by my eye before, but so happy to read it now. You are so light on your poem-feet, sort of like dancing, seeming effortless, yet it takes a whole lot of talent and grace. |

I remember the first day you came here. A great day in my book. Your poetry has really shaped this site. Thank you. Cheers - Ed Once you are truly insane, it’s all picnics with Kafka after that. See, it’s the process of going crazy that you gotta worry about. |

This is great! I had a '58 Impala, two door hard top. painted flat black with a handbuilt "stonecrusher" engine with two progressively linked four barrel carbs (gas was 20 cents a gallon). I swear it could cruise the old beach road to Skaket Beach all by itself. One September, someone asked me what I had done all summer. I said I had spent it exploring a broad. They thought I meant I had been in Europe. Thanks for stirring the memories. |

Your wonderful imagery bought back the many summers I spent on the Cape. I just wish I had the knack of capturing it like you do. Mucho gracias for the memories. To thy own self be true |

had a '66 442, power blue that greased my joints much the way your words grease the page. Loved that car. Never got to Boston though - just Phoenix, almost that year, and became something I never was before. Something that still simmers in my veins even after all these years. Loved this piece. Jimmy |

After hanging up from you remembered my only Cape Cod experience...told about this way... My Cape Cod Friend (from Boyhood Tales) Mid-summer, night in all it’s starry splendor; the group of us sitting on a trailer in the John Deere farm equipment sales lot, Lovington, New Mexico, talking, laughing, passing time, when Jed walked up, trailing you, whom he introduced as his Cape Cod cousin. I looked up, caught my breath, choked a little, finally mumbled, “hi” and died a little because it sounded so lame, stood up to make room, caught my foot, tripped… laughter all around; thank God for the moonless night, so you couldn’t see the burn on my face as I looked sideways at you, saw the barest smile, twinkling eyes that quenched the burn as they stoked the fire that threathened to consume my soul. You climbed up on the trailer, and just then, from my position on the floor, looking up at you towering over me, you smiled, held out your hand, “take mine” you said. I did…and you’ve never let it go. We were six then, my Cape Cod friend. Forty years ago. W. James Beard, Jr. © august 2000 Again, Loved your words, Jimmy |
