Of Dust and Heaven

Daylight settles to dusk,
As the dust dances with the wind.
Fading blues give way to smoldering grays,
As random fingers of fire-bright cloud wisps
Probe the soul of the night.

Darkness envelopes all,
While an unseen force rends the black fabric of God's raiment
With untold numbers of moth holes.
Peering through the holes in the weave,
We glimpse a faint impression of the universe beyond--

Much as a child peers clandestinely through a loose-woven tapestry--
That serves as a safety blanket--
To discern the unknowable dangers
That lay beyond the boundaries of sight or imagination--
So, too, do we peer through the rended sky-fabric
Hoping to divine the answers to all questions.

The pattern remains unclear,
As we are unable to decipher the ancient language
Of the pinhole-pricking, Braille-elegant star scribe.
Calmed by the perfect beauty and symmetry of the night sky,
We drift off to a half-asleep idyll,
Once more too float up, weightless,
And to join the majestic dance of the heavens.

Pinky: Gee, Brain, what are we going to do tonight?
Brain: The same thing we do every night, Pinky: try to take over the world!

Quite a view, is it not?
Endless and vast the destiny of the night sky.

I am a fan of your potent renderings!
So glad you have joined us here to write.

I like the idea of seeing the cosmos through the holes in the tapestry.  I never thought of it that way before.
