A Child Of God

I remember the strength
in her eyes

more than anything else
I remember the strength

she lay as helpless
a newborn

for fifteen years
she lay that way

racked with terrible pain
night and day
day and night

swollen joints
frail body twisted

a bed
a prison
no hope for reprieve
confined

death
her cowardly warden
lurking in
shadows deep

always near
always
waiting
wanting
threatening
despising her strength

bound
by an inhuman
torturer

a torturer
without mercy

rheumatoid arthritis
the great crippler

hideous
ominous
beast

even though
so it was

her eyes
could smile and say

I am not afraid
I am not angry
I Am
a child of God.

For Momma

2 Corinthians 12:9 KJV
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficent for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.

StevenS,

So tender and fragile and at the same time so very very powerful are your words here.

Thank you for sharing, God bless you, and I do pray that you and yours may continue to find comfort, strength, and perfect peace even in the midst of your mother's illness.

-Bob

Thank You Nancy, Bob, and Marge, Momma passed away in November of 01. She was a poet who dictated her poems when she could no longer hold her pen.
My mother was the most gentle soul I've ever known. Her unwavering faith was an inspiration to many, and I think maybe me most of all. :-)

As I commend you on a wonderful write so I feel saddened by what some people have to bear.  This was obviously an emotional write for you and yet you have done it so very well.  Love, you see, makes all things be and I believe you were guided here by a mother's love.

Thank you Honeybunch, I hadn't considered the possibility of my mother having a hand in my getting here. Now that I do...I know you must be right. :-)

Thank you much LeeJ. :-)

What a sad yet powerful write.
She lived in pain yet her eyes smiled
For she is truely a child of God.
It is the ones that seem weak to the world around that are the strongest of all.

Steven, I am writing through my tears of mixed emotions at your exceptionally moving write. Your Momma was a courgeous woman and her son did not fall far from her mighty oak tree.
It saddens me to know that she had to suffer for so many years and that you had to witness the prolonged pain of someone you loved so dearly.

This is such a timely reading for me as I just lost my Mom. Learning of what your mother experienced makes it somewhat easier for me to accept my Mom's sudden and unexpected death. She only suffered for a few days ~ and then she was gone.

God bless you, your Momma, and my Mom

Love & Eternal Light,
Linda
